Maxi dress to a wedding?

Hi all, I'd love your advice on this! I'm totally useless with fashion and clothes (literally live in leggings and long tops)
So I have a wedding to go to in a few weeks, close friends and DH is best man. I'll be 6 months pregnant and on a very tight budget due to also having a 11 month old with me.

Anyway to the point, do you think a maxi dress will be ok to wear? I never go to weddings so im not sure what's acceptable wear! Also, if I were to wear one what kind of shoes would you have? I'm really not good in high heels and also having to run around after a baby that won't be a good combination.

Any advice will be gladly taken on board!

Yes, there are some lovely maxis around at the moment, and surprisingly a lot of really cheap ones in the High St and even supermarkets (I like Tu by Sainsbury's) if the budget's really tight.

You can easily get away with flats in a maxi, you won't want to be in high heels with a 6 month bump

btw I'm wearing a maxi to ds's wedding, as is the bride's mum. Good enough for Kate Moss to wear to her friends' weddings, good enough for us Smile

I’m going to a wedding later this year. It is outside - think glamping- I’ll be wearing a maxi dress and espadrilles (or wellies). It should be fun.

Most people I know wear Maxis to weddings and look lovely. I don't, because I'm a short arse, but I'd love to.

Brilliant thank you all for the replies! I'll have a shop around and see what I can get Smile

As your DH is best man, you should be able to find out what the colour scheme is, and then avoid buying a dress in anything similar so you don't look like a spare bridesmaid Smile

Well it depends on the maxi I'd think. I'm wearing this to a wedding soon with flat dressy sandals.
A beach maxi with denim jacket obviously wouldn't be appropriate.

My DH's brother is getting married in June and DH is also the best man. I will also be 6 months pregnant. I feel that because DH is best man I need to look really nice and I did find a lovely dress but it was £125. I figured it wasn't worth spending that on a dress just for one day (that I'd probably never ever wear again either), and I would have probably got hot and uncomfortable in it.

I am opting for this instead. Only £22 from Dorothy Perkins. I have other maxi dresses in the same style so know it is really comfy, I shouldn't get hot easily as it's flowy and airy and most importantly I know I will be comfortable. I'm going to wear these sandals with it (£25 from Asos) and either a pink/blue clutch bag.

@kaytee87 that's a lovely dress!

Squ1ggle · 16/04/2018 16:30

Yes a maxi dress and flats is the way to go. I wore a lovely maternity maxi dress from Next to a wedding when expecting DS and some gold sandals, felt really good and most importantly comfy!

A maxi is lovely at a wedding, but definitely check bridesmaid colours, I have made this mistake in a lovely blue Grecian number and kept being asked if I was one. All the more awkward as I was a groom friend and didn't know the bride or her friends and was worried they were judging me...I didn't know! Blush
