White Stuff.....

I used to love it. The unusual tops, the lovely cotton fabrics, the pretty cardis. Was never keen on the boho type skirts ,always a bit mumsy.

But now! The minute I walk into my local shop it's 'my eyes. my eyes!'

Have they lost their way? They don't seem to have 'a brand' anymore. The latest catalogue has a bloody kiddies spaceship on the front yet the people I see buying are 45-70+.

What's their USP these days (apart from nothing under £45 for a cardi?)

I used to like their stuff about ten years ago but haven't bought anything from there for years. Randomly a couple of days ago they sent me a £20 voucher which is valid if you spend £20.01 - I'm struggling to find anything to use it on, especially as I don't want to spend loads more.

JoanOfNarc · 15/04/2018 10:02

I agree. It's all a bit sack like and dull. But tbh there aren't many high street shops I like. I also don't like monsoon, next, Debenham, cos or zara. Hence why I don't have many clothes.

MadMaryBoddington · 15/04/2018 10:04

I sometimes wander into their shops but usually end up wandering out again sharpish, as I find their over-friendly faux-jolly ‘Have a biscuit’ sales assistants too irritating.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 15/04/2018 10:20

The majority of my wardrobe is from Uniqlo these days, so not surprising really that I'm struggling to find something from White Stuff to fit in, although I was thinking they might be good for beach holiday stuff.

Tanaqui · 15/04/2018 13:41

I have a voucher the same as AllPizzas and the same problem- especially as you can’t combine it with a free delivery code!

DelphiniumBlue · 15/04/2018 16:55

I used to like some of their clothes ,like the dresses with pockets, but the colours this year don't work for me. I think because the styles are very casual, the faded colours they have at the moment make their clothes look too casual for most jobs. It would be fine on a english beach holiday, but I can't think where else one would actually wear most of it.

CoffeeOrSleep · 15/04/2018 17:12

I do like some of their jersey dresses - but I'm a SAHM, who gets bored of jeans easily so their casual dresses are usually fine for my lifestyle. There's a white stuff shop next to a place I do volunteering at, so I've walked in regularly, quite a lot of their jewellery is nice at the moment, but I've not seen any clothes I like.

Someone needs to tell them that while I might find £55 an acceptable price to pay for a casual dress, I'm not going to consider £35 an acceptable price for a t-shirt....

BWatchWatcher · 15/04/2018 17:26

I too have a voucher for £20, but I’m not sure it will go far unless I buy a scarf that i don’t really need.
Their tights and socks used to be good. They had some overpriced pants once.

FusRoDah · 15/04/2018 17:30

I used to have loads of their stuff, mostly from the winter collections. Recently their love affair with mustard yellow and their price hike (nearly £40 for a t-shirt Hmm) put me off.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 15/04/2018 17:32

I used to shop there quite a bit but haven't bought anything for well over a year - it seems to be getting worse. Same with FatFace to be honest

MissMorkansAnnualDance · 15/04/2018 17:42

My local factory shop stocks FatFace, WhiteStuff, Monsoon and M&S.

In all honesty, the M&S stuff is the best stuff there.

The WS and FF is all sludge. khaki and beige and looks like no amount of ironing is ever going to make it look nice.

I used to love FF and WS long jersey tunic tops. But sludge looks good on no-one.

RingtheBells · 15/04/2018 17:54

I wear white stuff tunics a lot but I am a tall 60 year old and find their stuff quite comfortable, I only buy on the 20% off days or from the sale section though as it is too expensive, I quite like mustard so have bought a couple of their mustardy yellow tunics, they are very friendly in my local shop and offered me a cup of coffee, I didn’t know if that was because they thought I was old and weary. I think I must be their target customer nowadays, I also buy from Seasalt a lot. Nothing fits me in M&S it’s all too short and wide

Baileystruffle · 15/04/2018 18:18

I got the voucher too, and although it says it is only valid on full price stuff, mine worked on all sale stuff too, I searched in sale accessories and ended up with a necklace, olive tights and big woolly socks that cost me £6.95 in total.

winterinmadeira · 15/04/2018 18:20

I used to love white stuff but like many of you haven’t bought anything for ages. I think it’s trying to be boden with all the garish prints and fabrics ...

TERFragetteCity · 15/04/2018 18:22

I used to get all my summer hear from there...these days I struggle.

Last summer I bought 4 tops and by August they all had holes in the front.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 15/04/2018 18:25

So much!!!

My favourite stuff in my wardrobe is FF and WS from over ten years ago. Lovely skirts that wash well, well made cotton tops.

I haven’t found anything I like there for years. I really want to like it but it’s badly made and overpriced and lots its style.

I shop at H and M.

DragonsAndCakes · 15/04/2018 18:26

It’s funny isn’t it. I feel it’s aged quicker than I have, and I can’t say that about many things...

RingtheBells · 15/04/2018 18:52

I haven’t had a voucher

Gingercatlover · 15/04/2018 19:01

Haha just me then that has got the little book in the post and love the new summer stuff, hmm and no voucher!
Must say though only order when they send me a discount code as it is pricey.

RingtheBells · 15/04/2018 19:14

It’s one of those places like Boden that has a lot of discount codes, usually 15% off as the stuff is overpriced. Do people ever buy at full price from White Stuff and Boden

nevereverhaveieverfeltsolow · 15/04/2018 19:27

The only good thing they ever did - their hard jeggings they randomly discontinued. Haven't bought anything there since

nevereverhaveieverfeltsolow · 15/04/2018 19:27

Jade not hard!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/04/2018 20:10

I find all that jersey a bit too casual, and the tops are very low cut (find the same with fat face as well). I like fat face jeans and chinos though, because they seem to be more generously cut than other brands.

If you’re anywhere near Gloucester, the quays shopping centre has outlet stores for both WS and FF, and provided you’re not a size 10 or 12 they have loads of stuff half price from the stores. It was slim pickings for the 10-12 sizes when I was there!

viques · 15/04/2018 20:19

I had, sorry still have, a pair of soft grey pull on legging trousers which I love, so soft and comfy. Sadly they are now so thin I can tell which knickers I am wearing through them , and there are a few little holes too. I really ought to throw them out, but they only take up a little space and are very handy for days when I am not going out or expecting anyone to call.

viques · 15/04/2018 20:21

And I haven't got a voucher either, though I have just remembered I have got one from somewhere else I need to use up pdq.
