Pedicures and varnish

Do pedicures only ever loom good if they are done professionally? I paint my own toes but never feel they look as good as s professional job but is that because I know I did them myself and/or because I have ugly feet?!
I also realised some of my nail polishes are nearly a decade old, should I chuck them out and buy new or do they not go off?

Definitely get new varnish. Use a nail buffer to prep and use base and top coats. Gel/shellac nails will probably look more professional than anything else but there is no reason why a home manicure can't look as good as getting normal polish done in a salon.

I just can't achieve that ultra clean and neat look that you get with a professional pedicure. The sight of my gel pedicure just cheers me so much. Old nail polishes usually emulsify into separate gloops in the bottle. I seem to remember reading about adding a dash of remover to revive nail polish but I'm not quite sure how it works. Give them a shake and they might be fine.
