Fake tan virgin here... What do I wash with??

After years of staying well clear of fake tan, following a truly terrible self-tan session that had me looking like Tigger's poor relation, I have decided to give self tanning another go.

I have purchased some Skinny Tan (got sucked in by a special offer) and a mitt, I know I will need to thoroughly exfoliate, and protect heels etc. with moisturiser.

What I don't know is what I should use as body wash afterwards. I seem to remember someone saying that moisturising shower gels are a no-no, is that a fact?

I usually wash with Aveeno shower oil, would this be OK? If not then what should I use? Brand recommendations would be very useful!

Thanks!

If it’s just after you’ve put it on and not to take it off then I use “simple” it’s clear shower gel with not much in it. You can find it in most pound shops.
Moisturiser is a good way of getting fake tan off all together, so is toothpaste if it’s really bad on dry hands or a little bit of lemon juice in a bath will work too but these are for if you want it completely off.

I just wash as normal after and my tan always stay on without a problem.

Make sure to mosturise your hands and elbows just before application the. Wash your hands about an hour or two after, it makes it look more blended and natural

Ok so plain shower gel is OK, just none with added moisturiser? Is that right? (sorry if I am being dim)

The morning after you’ve put your tan off, stand under the shower without running until the water runs clear, then just use normal shower gel. After the shower I usually pat dry and then moisturise to help get rid of any remaining fake tan smells 😊

The first shower after fake tan is water only, no soap etc at all.

After that you need sulphate free shower gel like dr organic.

Adding to PPs' good tips: I bought a soft sponge to use in the shower, instead of my usual body puff thing, which is too exfoliating.
Shower gel and moisturiser should be oil-free.

Thanks, I'll add this to the list!

I'm by no means an expert but I think anything with oil in will dissolve the tan. I could be talking crap though!
