Hi All

I need a new trenchcoat to replace my rather tired looking old one. I'm a 8-10 and quite short at 5 foot 2. My current one is beige but I think I'd like a navy one.

My dream one is this one: www.houseoffraser.co.uk/women/aquascutum-lana-double-breasted-raincoat/d691504.pd#240422448 but it is waaaaaaay over budget :(

Front runner so far: www.warehouse-london.com/nz/clothing/jackets-and-coats/classic-trench/029415.html?dwvar_029415_color=36&position=8&cgid=coats-casual-jackets#&start=8&categoryID=coats-casual-jackets

Where else should I be looking?

What's your budget? Have a look at & other stories, Hobbs, Banana Republic, Jaeger.

Oly5 · 12/04/2018 09:35

Hobbs Saskia and Sara trench coats are brilliant. I have both styles in cream and navy. The cotton is thick and wonderful and long-lasting. They dry clean nicely

DanaScully83 · 12/04/2018 09:57

Oly5 - I think we might have a winner! The Saskia is just what I'm looking for (and there is £50 off!). The only problem is I'm getting distracted by the beautiful petrol blue one: www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0118-3991-9057L00&productvarid=0118-3991-9057L00-PETROL-8&refpage=trench-coat-promotion

Can I ask about sizing? I'm between a 8 and 10. 8 in shops where the sizing runs on the larger side (like M & S). Is the Saskia roomy?

Ooh that's gorgeous! I might have to get one as well! Good question - I'm between 10 and 12. Is this a generous fit meaning the 12 might be too roomy and 10 neater?

After trying quite a few of various prices I ended up buying this on because i liked the length and fit best. I'm the same size/height as you and bought size 8

How about
www.comptoirdescotonniers.co.uk/womens-clothes/trenchs

WhyteKnyght · 12/04/2018 17:30

I have the Jack Wills one expatmigrant linked to in navy and really like it. Got a compliment the first time I wore it out.

I have also had lovely trenches from Zara, French Connection and Naf Naf. I tried the Saskia - my friend has it and looks great - but I didn't like the lack of buckle for the belt and thought it looked a bit bulky and scruffy on me because of that.

SecretTerf · 12/04/2018 17:36

I’ve got the Hobbs Saskia in gold and I love love love it. I don’t normally do coats with tie belts but this works for me. I also had a Hobbs trenchcoat a few years back that I loved and that lasted years so I didn’t mind spending more than I normally would. It was also on sale :)

chloechloe · 12/04/2018 18:04

I have this navy one from Whistles and it looks great:

It looks like it's sold out though but maybe there are some secondhand ones floating around?

Oly5 · 12/04/2018 18:40

I think Hobbs always comes up roomy. I’d size down if you’re between sizes. They genuinely are lovely coats!

Oly5 · 12/04/2018 18:42

Ps I’ve seen all the colours in store and they are nice.. but navy, black and cream are just classics! I confess to having quite a few of these. If you can splash out on more than one, the colours can be lovely. Report back when it arrives, I hope they fit!

Oly5 · 12/04/2018 20:43

Also, Hobbs has them in black but navy is still available on the John Lewis website

Uniqlo?

My coat is from warehouse and it’s lovely. Good quality. Very classic looking x

DanaScully83 · 12/04/2018 23:03

Thanks everyone. I've ordered the Hobbs Saskia in Navy in a size 8 and I can't wait until it arrives. I might go back for the Petrol one if it is a success! However, I'm currently loving mustard / ochre and couldn't help thinking how nicely a Navy trench coat would have gone with my new mustard suede shoes today!

expatmigrant - thanks for the Jack Wills link - it has been a long time since I've looked at Jack Wills but they have some really nice things.

Has it arrived? How’s the fit?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/04/2018 14:32

Has anybody seen a lovely bright one, which is all cotton including the lining? I love the Hobbs one but don't like the lining.
M&S have a cotton one too, which is lovely, but the lining is horrible.

DanaScully83 · 19/04/2018 23:35

Just popping back on to let everyone know that the Hobbs Saskia arrived last night (I'm overseas so delivery took a little while). It is exactly what I wanted and the 8 is a perfect fit. I feel so smart in it and the weight will be perfect as we head into Autumn here in NZ. Thanks Oly5 :)

That Saskia coat is gorgeous! I can't see a navy option, but the petrol is lovely.
