College interview - what to wear?

DS has an interview at college this week. He’s applying for apprenticeships in the construction trade.
His usual attire is jeans and hoodies.
How should he dress for this?

Smart casual, drink after work type look. Jeans would be fine assuming clean and not ripped!

Black or indigo jeans, ironed, and hemmed to the right length.

A shirt with a collar, ironed.

A V necked jersey in a muted colour, ironed so you can see creases down the sleeves.

Boots or shoes that have been polished.

I work in recruitment and have also been part of the selection panels at an Oxford college. People will tell you that clothes don't matter at this level. They absolutely do.
