If you have a teenage son 13-15 what do they wear?

DS1's birthday is coming up and he has asked for some trendier clothes. He doesn't want to go shopping, he wants a surprise Hmm

I'm struggling since he's yet to really develop his own style. I only see the children at school when they're in uniform or sports kit.

Google is bringing up boys in skinny jeans, vans, blazers with hoodies underneath and slouchy beanie hats. Is that right for this age group or has that trend passed?

Sounds about right although DS would wear shorts all year long if he could. I wrangle him into skinny Levis.

You can get some trendy skateboard-dude t-shirt and he likes US football/soccer team hoodies, or something like north face/jack wolf(?) sweaters.

www.slickwillies.co.uk/clothing/t-shirts.html

cloudtree · 09/04/2018 18:01

I'm a bit scared to click on a link called slick willies! Grin

Should have said he'll be 13

Skinny jeans, hoody, sports wear. Would check if he wants any particular label or any to avoid!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/04/2018 18:01

It's a trendy skateboard /skate shop!

catinapoolofsunshine · 09/04/2018 18:04

Do they really wear blazers when not in school uniform in the UK? Shock

We're in mainland Europe so probably not identical - but no school uniform so DD's friends are always in their "own clothes". The boys are almost all in skinny jeans, boots or trainers and hoodies or sports team jackets.

Ted27 · 09/04/2018 18:06

very casual here - football tops, track pants and tops. You can get some good bargains in Sports Direct for sportswear. Mine likes Addidas, Nike and Puma

mamaduckbone · 09/04/2018 18:10

My ds’s friends fall into 2 camps - either skatewear (Vans, skinnies, hoodies) or more sportswear brands - Nike, Adidas, Ellesse, nice trainers, godawful shiny track pants.
I prefer the skate look - guess which Ds wears Hmm?

My 13 year old ds (very image conscious all of a sudden) likes Adidas, Nike, Fred Perry, Elesse, North Face anc recently into stone island which is an absolute bloomin fortune so he got s T-Shirt in that with some birthday money.. he teams things with skinny ripped jeans too which I usually get from next or H and m... hope that helps

cloudtree · 09/04/2018 18:11

I think its a particular look cat blazer but with a hoodie underneath. This type of thing

This is all really helpful everyone. I'm going to check out some of those brands. I think the skatewear might work.

Looks very catwalk cloud - I can imagine a couple of 19/ 20 year old blokes I know locally dressing like that, maybe... but definitely not the younger teen boys! Mind you we're rural, I guess they aren't especially fashion forward :o

bobisbored · 09/04/2018 18:18

Two teens here, one lives in jogging bottoms and t-shirts with zip up hoodies. Very brand conscious, has to be Nike, Boss, Holister, North Face etc. The other wears skinny jeans, Vans and slouchy hoodies. He's not bothered where they are from, happy with high street shops.

hmcAsWas · 09/04/2018 18:19

My almost 14 year old is in a Nike hoody and skinny jeans from Gap

0to3sadonions · 09/04/2018 18:22

13 year old ds, wears jogging bottoms and zip up hoodies with Pokemon tshirts that he chooses from ebay

Scabetty · 09/04/2018 18:34

My 15 yo like adidas and vans for shoes and adidas, nike and urban outfitters for clothes. His current favourites are champion sweatshirts and looser, cropped jeans from urban outfitters worn with old school vans.

RedSkyAtNight · 09/04/2018 18:40

14 year old lives in combat trousers, T shirts and hoodies (shorts in summer). He's not fussy about clothes brands but trainers have to be "right".

TheScottishPlay · 09/04/2018 18:43

My 14 year old wears Vans, Nike, Converse and Puma hoodies, skinny jeans and tracksuit bottoms. Nike, Vans and Converse trainers.
He also likes sci-fi and Warhammer and buys clothes from Redbubble with this theme.

InspiredByIntegrity · 09/04/2018 20:20

DS is in a Superdry tshirt, hoodie from Animal and jeans from Next. He is not particularly bothered about labels. He would live in shorts and t-shirts year round given the option. He doesn't like anything black, wouldn't be seen out in a hat/beanie or combat trousers.

moodance · 09/04/2018 20:25

Next is always good ... they go up to age 16.

Potnoodleforbrains · 09/04/2018 20:28

My 16 year old is all north face and Nike at the moment . not cheap !!

willdoitinaminute · 09/04/2018 20:45

Supreme, Superdry, Hollister, Jack Wills for hoodies. Black skinny jeans. Nike or Adidas trainers the knitted ones ( that’s what they look like) ridiculously expensive or the ones that are extortionate Ezees (?).
DS is 13 and claims not to care about labels but won’t be seen dead in Lidl although is fine helping me shop in Waitrose.

Jeans are much easier I tend to go to primark since they make for slender boys with long legs. M&S are made for short legged chunkies so even the skinny fit look wrong on DS.
Just a tip measure his waist and inside leg before you go and take tape measure with you. Buy jeans on the long side because their legs grow first going into puberty!

Happynow · 09/04/2018 20:49

Get him anything from Supreme ... he'll be happy.

willdoitinaminute · 09/04/2018 20:51

Oh and white trainers are ”so uncool Mum! “ black or grey. Or get him to pick out a pair online before you get yelled at. Keep the receipts, despite their not being bothered they definitely are very bothered, they just don’t like shopping.

Lifeaback · 09/04/2018 21:15

Trendy at this age means label rather than fashion iyswim. 13 is peak 'sheep' age where all that seems to matter is following the crowd. I would suggest asking him what particular brands he might like/wants to avoid as this seems to vary a bit from area to area (e.g. What's fashionable in a London high school might not be the same as what's fashionable in a rural Irish high school). If he doesn't want to go shopping, ask him to point out a few things online as a guideline for you

'Cool' brands in this house at the minute are t-shirts and hoodies from Vans, palace, supreme, thrasher (all skater style) and addias, Nike, ellesse (all sporty style). Worn with black skinny jeans from either topman or asos, and a variation of Nike/vans/adidas trainers
