If you have a teenage son 13-15 what do they wear?

DS1's birthday is coming up and he has asked for some trendier clothes. He doesn't want to go shopping, he wants a surprise Hmm

I'm struggling since he's yet to really develop his own style. I only see the children at school when they're in uniform or sports kit.

Google is bringing up boys in skinny jeans, vans, blazers with hoodies underneath and slouchy beanie hats. Is that right for this age group or has that trend passed?

Nike / adidas hoodies, Nike / adidas track suit bottoms.

Failingat40 · 09/04/2018 23:29

Mine is fussy and wouldn't wear anything out of Next or similar shops.

Mine wears North Face, Berghaus, Nike Air, Armani, Lacoste, Fred Perry, Pretty Green.

MirandaWest · 09/04/2018 23:32

Ds is 14. Generally wears either Nike or Adidas joggers and a grey, black or white t shirt with a grey hoodie. There is a monochrome theme going on. Sometimes wears black skinny jeans. Does have a white Nike hoody which doesn’t go well with his like of playing basketball with a muddy basketball Hmm

teta · 10/04/2018 10:39

Mine wears H&M jeans that his sister rips for him.Tie dyed or brightly coloured tropical print t shirts from Tk Maxx or Hollister. With hoodies by Hype or Hollister.Track pants are the harem style Nike’s.

Twinkie1 · 10/04/2018 10:59

Abercrombie, Jack Wills, Hollister all with stupid girls skinny jeans 🙄

intuition · 10/04/2018 11:08

Lifeaback spot on!!

It's all about their tribe and what their tribe wear. I have a DS13 and DS15. Both wear similar to their mates (tribe). One is adidas top to toe or skinny jeans. The other is TopMan and Urban outfitters. They dress similarly but one wouldn't wear Adidas and the other wouldn't wear Nike!!
Ask him what his mates wear, what style he thinks makes his mates look cool. At 13 I think they should be encouraged to dress themselves!! Mine used to wear Abercrombie and other expensive brands. Now they are much keener on high st. I love it!! Think image is so important for self esteem.

cloudtree · 10/04/2018 11:18

Hmm, this sounds like its going to be expensive!

He specifically doesn't want to have to choose. That may well just be him being lazy but he wants presents to open and I'm expected to just know what's right I think.

He doesn't see his friends that much outside of school TBH (live rurally and he goes to an independent with a very wide catchment area). They see each other a lot at weekends but its school organised stuff and they're wearing school sports kit or outdoor wear.

I have been doing some googling though based on this thread and I think the skater look, vans, zipped hoodies, skinny jeans etc is much more him than sports wear so that's been really helpful.

Its hard since he's into rugby/swimming/horse riding/acting but also anime and dungeons and dragons. An eclectic mix.

Essential trainers that cost £120 apparently. Sad

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 10/04/2018 11:24

Anything baggy and sportswear like for my DSS (13) 🤮 Nike is the only brand, and clothing endorsed by youtubers 🤮🤮

So pleased DSD has a better sense of style!

Americantan · 10/04/2018 11:28

Mine lives in Jack Jones Liam skinny jeans, Superdry T shirts and checked shirts and Vans.

pinyata · 10/04/2018 11:31

Nike Tech tracksuits are very on trend at the moment. My DSS and his friend literally look a boy band wanting about with the same thing on but in different colours.

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 10/04/2018 11:36

Plain t shirts, plain shirts, hoodies with no logos, slim fit chinos. All must be grey, white, black or very dark grayish blue. They are both colour blind but refuse to wear colour and have a horror of visible branding.GrinConfused

For shoes: walking shoes or climbing boots, black and no logos or colour.

They've both dressed like this since they were about 12. I get it all from Next, charity or ASOS.

Cheap but boring.

rightknockered · 10/04/2018 11:41

Plain t-shirts and hoodies, joggers and trackpants, Nike trainers, camo pants, and everything in dark colours, for my 15 year old.
11 year old is coming up in the ranks and has asked me for similar this year, but brighter colours.
PMSL at boyband.

crunchtime · 10/04/2018 11:43

skinny jeans, superdry t shirts or hollister ones, hoodies.

or for smart skinny chinos and a smart superdry shirt with point y suede boots.
addidas trainers the rest of the time.

shorts on the summer-denim, chino shorts etc
very image concious.
he's 14

NC4Now · 10/04/2018 11:43

Mine are skaters. 12 yo wears skinny jeans from Gap, Superdry hoodies, Airwalk trainers etc.

Definitely not blazers, unless they are going somewhere extra smart.

Tshirts, they wear band Tshirts (HMV good for them) or skate brands. 12 year old also wears plain stuff, or marvel type things. No Minecraft or Pokemon anymore.

15yo wears ridiculously baggy jeans from Route One, ES trainers, or Emerica, and shops for hoodies in the skate shops in Manchester. He always wears a hat too - SnapBack in summer, beanie in Winter.
His latest is by Carhart.

stressedoutfred · 10/04/2018 11:49

My 14 year old wears skinny jeans, Adidas trainers and Adidas hoody's as standard with Adidas/ river island/ New Look/ Jack Jones/ Hugo boss tshirts

He's recently started liking muscle fit tops. I really like ASOS as he's hard work to go shopping with ..

TheMythicalChicken · 10/04/2018 11:50

Lucid and Skylark are both trendy brands for 13 year old boys. Also, if he skates, Nike have just brought out a range of skate trainers called 'Nike SB'.

MistyMeena · 10/04/2018 11:50

Mine isn't bothered by brands but refuses to wear jeans so usually track bottoms, t shirt hoodie. Every flipping day Smile

BishopBrennansArse · 10/04/2018 11:50

Adidas everything 🙄

missbonita · 10/04/2018 11:52

Cool how?
Cool is black trackie, baggy jeans, always a hoodie and nice new clean trainers. A blazer can be smart and/or preppy but never ever cool. Take him to a big shopping centre and let him try loads on to find his style. I was surprised when my academic, geeky son who’s idea of s wild night is 2 games of fifa against his dad chose a ‘roadman’ Black tracky but he looks great and it’s the time to try stuff out.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 10/04/2018 12:10

Black /dark skinny jeans plus hoodie in muted colours like maroon and grey is the uniform here. Jeans don't have to be branded but it's Nike shoes for boys.

Tops should be longline.

SluttyButty · 10/04/2018 12:28

Mine's a scooter boy and lives in skinny jeans, he's quite happy with unbranded Tshirts and hoodies but insists on Nike or Adidas mesh trainers and skate shoes, I tried to persuade him with cheaper ones but was shot down in flames.
He has recently been persuaded into some slim fit chinos as a 'smarter' option if needs be.

Wonderlass · 10/04/2018 12:29

Whatever I buy him.

Mainly Tesco, Primark and H&M.

He loathes labels.

cloudtree · 10/04/2018 12:36

I didn't mean blazer in the way that DH would mean a blazer. I mean the layered hunting blazer over a hoodie look (which would make DH look like he was trying way too hard to be trendy Grin but I've seen quite a lot around - possibly though with slightly older boys).

Luckily DS1 is completely colour blind so I can buy any colours and he'd think they were all sludgy green/brown.

Ordered some vans and some skinny jeans and am now doing hoodies and tops based on these brand recommendations. TBH apart from the brand names it seems pretty similar to what he has worn every weekend since he was a toddler!

Supreme, Adidas, Superdry. I love Hollister because the stuff is so very soft and lasts brilliantly but DC (15/16) now think it's really boring. They loved it at 13 though, so he may still be OK with it.

Or get him to look at stuff on ASOS and point out what he thinks is cool.

DS2 15 is getting into very trendy, arty clothes but they're a bit much for a 13 yr old.
