wide leg trousers/culottes

I tend to avoid these as I'm only 5ft 4, but I'm moving to a very hot country in August and I'm starting to think they would be a good idea. If cropped, they would need to be a petite fitting as otherwise they just look too short rather than cropped. I wonder whether a straight or wide leg trouser is the way to go. I have a sewing machine and often trim and re-hem things that are too long. Suggestions welcome, thank you.

I'm 5ft 4 with short legs and I love a wide leg swishy trouser in hot weather - if you get high waisted ones and wear with a cropped top I think it's really flattering. Uniqlo have some lovely, reasonably priced, ones at the moment.

What hot country are you doing to? If in the ME and Asia / India you will be more comfortable in long sleeved maxi dresses similar to the ones Kate Middleton wore in India few years back; as because of the heat NO ONE walks and so you’ll be freezing under aircon all the time.

I disagree with the view that wide legs are only for tall people. I'm 5'3 and I think my legs look shortest of all in skinnies.

I'm not saying all wide legs work for me but I look for ones that are high waisted and skim the arse - so more of an 1980s/40s than a 90s wide leg. It means you can't quite see where my legs begin and puts the focus on my waist and I like that. I think it's refreshing as fashion has been so focussed on arse and thighs for years and I'm ready for a change.

It does mean shopping around though and trying lots on cos they're not all the same.

I agree with Floisme. I'm 5'6" and live in wide legged trousers both full length and cropped. I'm particular about length though as the cropped version has to be just above the ankle, no shorter. I'm long bodied so like the balance of wide legged trousers they help to hide where my legs start.
Skinny jeans look awful on me because they emphasis my odd proportions.

I’m short and like wide legs too but...... I think they tend to look better with a heel and imo heels and heat don’t mix.
