As everything I seem to see in main stream shops seems to be made with it

I'd love to be able to sew but sadly not enough hours in the day!

Adini, Fat Face and White Stuff - the tops I have from them are 100% cotton.

@hypermice - would you link or name some of the pattern makers you mentioned? Thank you!

Hypermice · 09/04/2018 10:54

Sure:
www.fabricgodmother.co.uk/patterns/

Here’s a webpage with loads on. Fabric godmother is great for ex designer fabric at great prices (I have no affiliation with them, they are just great!)

Truro fabrics, dragonfly fabrics do nice ‘fancier’ dressmaking fabrics too.

Willow I’ve been quite impressed with one or two silk shirts at Arket - nicely made, with careful details, at a perfectly reasonable price. Not sure how easy they’d be to spot on a screen. On the other hand there’s too much stuff in the physical shops ...

Joe Browns have cotton tops & structured summer dresses.

I recently bought some cotton shirts from Dotty P for work.
New look has some cotton tops that are ok and Uniqlo has lots too.
I am struggling to find smart trousers that are neither polyester or some other synthetic material. I know linen is popular at the moment but they’re not smart enough or practical for work in colder weather. I usually wear dark jeans instead for work but even a high end brand like Levi’s seems to be suffering in fabric quality. My 501s, that I bought 20 years ago as a teen, with the button fly looks and is in better condition than a pair that I bought last year!
Someone mentioned silk tops up thread, and I didn’t see any in any of the high street shops today but I went into a charity shop and saw a monsoon one, probably a discontinued style.
