I'm not exactly stylish and don't go out much. DH and I have been invited to a surprise anniversary party in a reasonably fancy hotel, I live in jeans and wellies (vegetable farmers!) so have no clue what you wear to these things BlushWe sort of have to go so not to offend and I'm a 10-12 but tend to avoid very tight round the middle after EMCS with dd1. Please help someone clueless!

What time is the do starting off at?

I'm going to a 40th birthday soon but it's starting at half 5 and kids are invited so I'm thinking it'll be quite casual...

I live in jeans and trainers so I feel your pain. There's a balance to find to avoid being uncomfortable because you're wearing clothes you're not used to and avoid being uncomfortable because everyone else looks more polished...

It's a 7pm start they said we can bring the kids but they (like us usually have no babysitters) so I'm none the wiser Confused

If you're used to jeans, then I wouldn't go too far out of your comfort zone. How about smart jeans or other trousers and a nice top. Don't know how much you want to spend but something like this would be really nice with a chunky silver necklace or something.

These sort of trousers, and heels if you're comfortable in them. I'd go for ankle boots but lots of things would work.

I like that top! I was worried I'd have to go something fancier but I'd be comfortable in that, especially with ankle boots

Unless you know all the other women are wearing ball dresses, I’d have thought you’d be fine.

Much better to wear something you feel comfortable in and have a great time than feel awkward all night and not relax.
