How do I clean up my white superga/converse?

Spring seems to have finally hit and my white trainers are a serious state! What can I do to clean them up? Both went through the wash but didn’t come out much better?!

I put my white converse in the washing machine with a load of vanish for white things powder - and had put some of the washing liquid directly on a particularly bad looking mud stain. Thy came out ok, not new looking but less revolting.

Think I'll buy navy ones next time so they look clean longer...

Great. I’ll give that a go!

Washing machine here too. Works every time.

Washing machine with a decent biological powder - also maybe try leaving them in the sun for the day when damp? (that's my solution for whitening most of my white things)

You need this Wink

Spray all over shoes, leave for a good few hours then wash in machine

I clean my white leather Supegra with Jif.

suchatiredbunny · 06/04/2018 17:06

I use cream cleaner and a toothbrush on DS's white trainers, then put them through a wash.

Buttercupsandaisies · 06/04/2018 18:40

Jif - if you do use machine use a cold wash - the soles melted off my pair on a 40 wash

creamcheeseandlox · 06/04/2018 18:44

I have been thinking the same thing over last week. I have white superga that are looking a bit grubby but can do for another year. I was thinking bleach but not sure how to do it. I have already put them in the machine and didn't come out much better. So place marking for ideas too

BanyanTree · 07/04/2018 13:17

I wouldn't put my trainers in the wash. I'd hand wash them in a bowl at the very most and leave to dry in the sun or airing cupboard.

White laundry soap and a nail brush works wonders.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 07/04/2018 17:45

Have had the same Supergas for about 10 years now, and sling them in a 60 degree white wash with powder (and sometimes a bit of bleach if they're really stinky) Come out like new.

Superga fans might be in for a few bargains soon- the news is the company is going down the pan and might go into liquidation.

littlepill · 07/04/2018 17:47

Washing machine here, too, also with a glug of bleach or Vanish.
Wow, I did not know that about Superga! Bought mine in Italy and they were only 15 Euros. Far less expensive Smile

creamcheeseandlox · 07/04/2018 22:24

Bleach in the drawer or in the drum? I love my supergas much more comfy than converse. May have to grab a few pairs in that case.

Redcrayons · 07/04/2018 22:29

Also chuck them in the wash. When it's really sunny I dried them on the patio table in the sun and they came up like new.

FrannySalinger · 07/04/2018 22:33

Don't put Superga in the wash - the heat ruins the glue and you end up with a weird dirty yellow line around them

DragonNoodleCake · 07/04/2018 22:44

Toothpaste and a scrubbing brush!

HoneyDragon · 07/04/2018 22:47

If they are cloth one I put them in a 30°c walk with a dishwasher tablet in the drum.

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 07/04/2018 23:10

I stick them in the wash with some soda crystals & they come out bright white. Watch out for bleach; I tried this and it made a pair go yellow Envy

creamcheeseandlox · 07/04/2018 23:20

Gary how much soda crystals did u use and put them in the drawer?

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 09/04/2018 12:42

I use a couple of tablespoons in the drawer. If they are really grubby they sometimes need two washes.
