1920s style dress

I’ve been invited to a 1920s event in May and would like to make some effort in the 1920s style dress.
I have an old Coast top which is very Gatsby-esque but I’ve struggled to find a skirt that goes with it. To give you an idea, it is the top version of this dress hash=item41de917439:g:NKMAAOSwLe5av8TR here

Ideally I’d like a silvery skirt that would work with the top half. I’ve not been able to finding the matching skirt as I got the top in a sale and have always worn plain grey trousers with it at weddings. Failing that, what ideas do people have please?
Thanks in advance.

I'd go for a midi skirt with fringed hem and a string of long pearls/beads (you can get these cheap anywhere online) to accessorize. Think Louise Brooks for inspiration!

Thanks Fabala. A midi skirt is what I had in mind.

I don't know if they have any skirts, but I like Revival Retro for vintage clothes, I love a pair of gold balboa shoes she has in! They have a good website too. Lots of vintage inspired stuff.

Thanks, I’ll have a look. Anyone know where I might get a lightish grey/silver silk/chiffon or tolulle skirt from please?

That’s lovely Abigail. I want to avoid gold and black to be honest as I usually wear a lot of black anyway!

Not what you asked for but pleats were a thing in the 20s

Thanks member, pleats seem to be very popular at the moment whenever I search for silver skirt. I thought they may clash with the detail of the top but I won’t tule it out.

There's a tulle one by monsoon with less defined pleats

Have you checked eBay for the matching skirt?

Mulberrysilk · 06/04/2018 09:37

Have you considered trying the top with palazzo pants?

I have checked ebay already for the matching skirt Abigail but because it’s a discontinued style (2005), it’s not likely to come up often.

I’d consider similar trousers to those mulberry but being 5’2”, it’s hard to find a pair which fits! I’ve always worn the top with some smart grey trousers but would like a skirt for a change. I will continue to look on eBay for a bit.

Have you tried Frock and Frill I stumbled on their website looking for a wedding outfit and most of their clothes are 20s style .

Hobbes8 · 07/04/2018 22:52

Have you tried Jenny Packham at Debenhams? That's quite vintage-y. Lots of Art Deco style accessories as well.

RebelRogue · 07/04/2018 22:57

No idea if it's right size

Thank you for further responses and ideas. I really appreciate it.

The SimplyBe one is a lovely colour, but perhaps a little too bright for me.

Thanks Rebel for the links. Yes, I am keeping an eye on the silver and dove grey skirts, on ebay, in case one comes up in my size. The faux leather one is the sort of colour and length I am looking for.

I am also considering petite wide leg trousers as palazzo pants, suggested by another poster.

I shall have a look at Frock and Frill, and Jenny Packham. Thanks.

What size are you if you don't mind sharing?

DavetheCat2001 · 08/04/2018 00:21

I wore this to a 1920's party last year.

Love the flapper style!

Not at all Rebel. I am 5ft 2", pear shaped and wear a size 8.

I do like the outfit Davethecat, but as I wear a lot of black already, I am trying to avoid it for a change!

RebelRogue · 08/04/2018 00:37

Ohh size 8. That's lucky, because most of the stuff auctioned on ebay seems to be that size.
