Anybody like to help me? What would you wear with this?

Can I ask what you would wear with this skirt please? I really like it but I've drawn a blank on what to wear with it. I've tried coral and peach and pink but none are good with my skin tone (I'm so white I'm almost blue!), but perhaps the right shade of pink might work though I have yet to figure out what that shade is. Brown could work but might make it look very dreary.

Would anyone have any suggestions please?

A white tshirt or shirt; or a bright red tank in warmer weather

TheDogAndDogAtCrutchley · 05/04/2018 02:58

Well I wouldn’t wear a jumper with it, that looks well frumpy. I’d wear a camisole or vest type top.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 05/04/2018 03:00

How tall are you? I think if you’re tall, a jumper could look nice but if you’re short, it might drown you a bit.

Thebirthdayparty · 05/04/2018 03:20

I'm short and I tried a jumper with it but it looked terrible.

I quite like the jumper the model is wearing but it is £££ and the colour wouldn't suit me.

I tried white with it but the colour of the skirt is not very summery so a white tshirt looks quite odd with it. Ideally I'd like to wear it during this weather instead of waiting for summer to try and get more use out of it

Black t shirt? Either short sleeved or long. A little baggy and tucked in.

Skittlesandbeer · 05/04/2018 05:19

I still think a white tee, quite fitted. A cropped jacket- coloured leather, denim or normal denim (especially if you’re doing it with trainers).

Another look might be with Mary-janes (to amp up the flamenco look), and a fitted cardi.

Basically it needs something cinched and plain on top, to balance the flounce and dense pattern, in my book.

Keep looking for a coral/salmon top or jacket that suits your colouring- start with your fave lipstick in that colour range?

Something with a tiny horizontal stripe, in red/white. It would give the look of pink from a distance but up close it would look red/white.

Mixing patterns can be tricky though, and the fabric would have to be viscose or similarly flowing - no stiff cotton or heavyweight fabric.

Stripes a bit big here though.

Mainly white with a small black stripe would be nice too.

I think the colour is quite summery, and the lightweight fabric certainly is.

This blouse might go?

Alternatively, going in a completely different direction here:

Denim shirt in washed black.

(Though overall, I actually wouldn't buy this skirt if you're short.)

White t-shirt, fitted with turned up, capped sleeves. White trainers (like the photo) or salmon flatform brogues.

Black would kill it.

I’d also wear it with a white shirt with turned up sleeves and tan, heeled knee length boots in the winter.

SinglePringle · 05/04/2018 06:22

(If not a white T-shirt then a cream one the same as described. Other Stories do one. And then the cream Superga that I got last year).

LadyTesticlee · 05/04/2018 06:32

I would try a rust colour
I think the skirt is so volumnious and big it would take over a small short frame. I would avoid flats if short and wear high heeled sandals or if its cold embroidery cowboy boots.

I'd pick out one of the colours in the flowers and try to find a t-shirt in that, cream may work but you need to check against your skin.

Thebirthdayparty · 05/04/2018 12:49

Thanks for your help.! Because I’m short, heels look better. I’m finding it so difficult to wear it but the skirt really is lovely. It has a swoosh that I love 😀

However I fear it is just too much effort.

I'm going to go against the grain and suggest a green slim fit jumper of some description. You either pick out one of the colours of the skirt, or you go for something contrasting.

As you don't like the coral/pink colour range, I would look for something to contrast with it. Black would overpower it and white is safe enough but a bit boring.

As someone else suggested, rust is another option. But definitely a slim fit tucked in top.

Ellapaella · 05/04/2018 17:51

Black cami or silk top tucked in (summer days). A black merino wool fine knit jumper would also look good but would need to not be baggy and quite fitted.
I really liked the look of that skirt and was tempted to buy it myself but couldn't decide what season it was best suited to.

Thebirthdayparty · 05/04/2018 18:54

I tried a slim fit charcoal with it and it works!

I think k maybe people are suggesting black because they think the background is black? The true colour is a faded brown/grey.

I tried white again but it doesn’t work.

I like the suggestion of green and I have a few fitted green tops.

I bought a Cos pink today so will try that too.

Tucking in is difficult as it’s elasticated and I have to turn up the waist as it’s too long. If I keep it, I will get it altered. Withvthe fitted top, it looks ok with the top coming down over the waist.

Really it is too long and too big but it is one of those items of clothes I really like.
