Marimekko Uniqlo - anyone bought anything?

Just seen this range - missed out on the dresses but did get some t shirts. Loved the Liberty stuff I bought through them so hoping the Marimekko stuff is great too. Anyone bought anything from the range and are you pleased with it?

I got the Pompula dresses in both black and white and orange/pink and I am thrilled with them. I've worn the black and white one to work today and have had loads of people admiring it.

TrickyKid · 04/04/2018 17:14

All the t-shirts! Love them. Ordered 2 on Saturday which came today, so pleased with them I've bought all the other prints.

I saw it yesterday and loved them but wasn't sure if the dresses would wear me. Are they targeted at a particular age group? I imagine you could rock them any age. But as I'm 5'3 the large spot dress was overpowering.

Notcontent · 04/04/2018 19:35

Yes, I got some tshirts and a spotty dress. My mum did too. I think it's a timeless look.

Funny, I've just been to Westfield specifically to try them on, mainly because when I saw them online my trigger finger got very itchy and I was trying to keep myself under control.

Personally I find the shapes and sizes very odd. I'm roughly a size 14 (sometimes 12 on top, sometimes 16 on the bottom) and the best fit on me was a small. Everything looked like a tent, even a small. If you have a more athletic build I'm sure they're fabulous, but as a busty hourglass they just made me look dumpy. Gutted as the prints and colours were fab.

Yeah, I’ve avoided the spots for fear of looking like Minnie Mouse, but I’m hoping the t shirts work. I’ve had issues with their sizing in the past so have ordered both small and medium to see what works.

The Tikkutäkke t-shirt came today and it is fantastic, really great quality and I love the sleeve shape. The Polle bag was less good, but will be useful especially for weekends away as a beach bag with hand luggage only.
Didn't buy any of the dresses as I have one of the Marimekko stretch jersey Polle ones which wasn't cheap, but has been a total bargain in terms of wear, 3/4 sleeves with curved cuffs, I love that dress.

I saw the range in store in Bluewater on Saturday. I liked it. I particularly liked the A-line dresses in the spotty prints, but as I've got a dress pattern in the same style, and just need to get some fabric, I didn't indulge. I was very tempted though.

musicmum75 · 04/04/2018 23:38

I bought the a-line sleeveless top with large polka dots on it but it's going back. It looked ridiculous. It sticks out all around the hem, almost as if it had a wire hoop in it! Not flattering at all.

EnormousDormouse · 04/04/2018 23:46

I had a look in-store at the weekend and didn't buy anything as it was all so bright - completely wrong tones for my colouring.
And then I tried the Hana Tajima collection and I looked like a sack of spuds (Waaaah! )

DrowningEveryDay · 05/04/2018 00:03

Bought some of the shirts. I got the size Large but could have gone with a medium. I'm a 16.

I wish I got some of the other prints!

TrickyKid · 05/04/2018 15:35

I'm size 14 and have got the large t-shirts. I love the boxy shape.

oursofas · 05/04/2018 16:19

Ooh, I really like these. Unfortunately, I'm a size 20 so I don't think anything would fit. Has anybody seen similar stuff in plus sizes anywhere by any chance?

bingohandjob · 05/04/2018 17:48

oursofas, keep an eye on Monki - they do similar bold prints and cuts and often do them in 'oversize' cuts and they regularly update their styles. I've got some of the marimekko pieces and I'd say they are very generous cut.

shins · 05/04/2018 18:21

@mrsrinky I'm envious you're somewhere warm enough to wear them! I ordered some and am torn...they're lovely but worry about looking like a mad old bat. Love the black and white print.Grin

oursofas · 05/04/2018 18:28

Thanks, bingohandjob. Will do.

MsRinky · 06/04/2018 11:59

@shins I wore it with leggings, a long sleeve t-shirt underneath, a long cardigan, a huge scarf and a parka! Mad old bat is pretty much my style.

shins · 06/04/2018 12:43

@msrinky my kids changed my mind, they loved the bright colours! I spend too much time trying to be tasteful, it's time to look like a child's crayon box for a while. They are gorgeous aren't they? Easter Grin
