Split Nails

I trapped a finger in a drawer a while ago and ever since although the nail grows, it gets to a certain point about half way up my finger and then splits vertically about a third of the way across one side and breaks off.

Can anyone suggest anything I can do/use to strengthen the nail or stop it splitting?

I hate to be miserable but I don't think you can. One of mine split more than 20 years ago. I've tried everything. Nail technicians have looked at it. Still split. I keep it short so it doesn't catch and tear because that hurts like mad but the verdict is if the nail bed is damaged you've had it. I really hope yours isn't!
