Root retouch - how long to keep the colour on for?

I'm redoing my roots at home. This is quite a new thing for me as I've always had it done at the salon. The box says to leave the colour on for 10 minutes but the salon always leaves it on for 30 minutes.
I have got pretty resistant greys. I don't want to end up with 2-tone hair - either way! How long should I leave it on for?

I leave it on for about 15.

Thanks Pass - if you don't mind me asking, are you covering greys? They take longer for the colour to take hold don't they?

I leave mine on for 15 minutes too, sometimes a bit longer if I get distracted.

This seems to cover my grey.

MsMalcontent · 03/04/2018 19:15

Great! Thanks both. It's been on for 15 minutes now so off to rinse.

Fingers crossed!

Sorry- yes, it does cover my grey but I use the dark blonde so might be harder going to brown perhaps?

Did it work? I swear by the stuff, hairdresser does myntoots every 6 weeks and I use this in the middle, half a pack at a time.

MsMalcontent · 03/04/2018 22:10

Yes it worked - I'm quite pleased with the coverage actually! Done a much better job than I expected. Thanks for your help.

Great news!

Fightthebear · 03/04/2018 22:42

I love that stuff. Needs more like 30 mins to cover my greys.

skinnyamericano · 04/04/2018 09:56

You prompted me into doing mine this morning! Glad it worked well.

Reallylongstory · 07/04/2018 14:53

Which brand did you use as I’m thinking of trying it on my hair?

Passthecake30 · 07/04/2018 15:38

I use Clairol

Tantpoke · 07/04/2018 20:33

I use nice and easy No 8 and it takes 30 mins.

I used some to highlight a few strands at the front of my DD hair and after 30 mins it was nowhere near as blonde as mine and barely visible in her midbrown hair.
I am a dirty blonde colour and if I leave it on for any less it just isn't the same.
