Alternative to a wedding dress

I'm getting married soon and I still don't have a dress. I don't want a traditional wedding dress- I always feel really self-conscious and uncomfortable in anything really dressy. I'm petite, size 8-10, conscious of my tummy (thanks DD) & upper arms. Budget of up to about £300 max. Any ideas of where I could find something suitably dressy but not bridal?

Love that Anthropologie dress MadMary.
Ted Baker one is also lovely Olennas but not very "me". Maybe a bit too bridal?
AmyMel Needle & Thread is where I'd been looking initially- their stuff is lovely but maybe a bit glitzy?
I'm finding this decision so hard, in case you can't tell!

What sort of wedding is it? I think we need to know if you're getting married in church, on a beach, in a field.

The Anthropologie one is really nice.

Have you tried anything on OP? I don't just mean in a bridal shop, but maybe a big department store with lots of dresses that you might not normally try on? You might be surprised with how some of them feel and look on you

Good point Rainy. It's a pretty casual wedding- registrars office, dinner at a pub then bigger reception in a function room. Not a bouquets/fascinates/toast type deal.

Olennas No haven't tried anything Blush I went for a look a couple of months ago but didn't see anything I liked much so didn't try anything on.** I'm usually pretty fussy/particular about my clothes & the pressure of this being my own wedding is making it so much worse.

ooo mostiquoes that's exactly the same as our wedding next year!

I'm wearing this from quiz -

(i think)

Well then I don't think Needle & Thread is too glitzy. Their dresses are beautiful, and the shorter length ones seem entirely appropriate to me. Since you have already been drawn to them yourself, why not try on a selection?

Libelula? They have a store near Basingstoke if you're down south, and lots of dresses on sale.

I think French Connection have some lovely ones in at the mo. Got my own wedding dress made. Chose the most luxurious fabric and picked a really plain tea length style. It was gorgeous.

Oh, and there's a nice website called bhldn which has some lovely alternative styles.
