I’ve a few gorgeous blouses from Zara and one from Reiss, but definitely need a revamp - keen to hear where youve purchased some fab work wear?

I’m also 40 and just doing my teacher training. My current look is dresses from the white stuff, sea salt or oasis and then either cardigan or jacket depending on how smart I want to be.

Well firstly there's nothing wrong with looking 40. It doesn't automatically mean unfashionable.

Good shops for work clothes: COS, UNIQLO, Boden (if smart casual but avoid the colourful prints and decoration, however basics like trousers are still good), GAP bistretch ankle grazers, some Jigsaw or Hobbs if workplace smart.

I wear brogues or loafers with ankle grazer trousers or trainers with widelegs. I like silk blouses for work (more drapy than cotton) or fine knit jumpers. Ruched skirts also comfy but smart and dresses of course. No fussy patterns, and simple shapes. I wear a lot of navy with touches of brights (belts or shoes).

I love Zara and Topshop. I don’t love brogues
