Tall ranges are so unfashionable

I think I might change career and become a designer for women's tall fashion

Wtf are Next thinking with these tops?

All I want are some nice fashionable tops for spring/ summer but, no impossible. Next are aimed at the older generation, Topshop think tall people all want to show off their stomach and Dorothy Perkins just seem to love the floral this year and basic t-shirts.

Any other tall ranges out there? Plain, smart tops?

i'm only 5'9" but struggle with skirts and dresses being long enough - most shops seem to offer longer length trousers but I've only seen longer length dresses in Boden.

Luckily I have comparatively short arms and narrow shoulders for my height so tops/coats less of an issue.

blueskypink · 02/04/2018 13:19

It truly amazes me when shops sell trousers in one length. Skirts and dresses less so as many tall people will resign themselves to showing a bit more leg.

But trousers? If your legs aren't exactly the right length, you can't wear them!

I also can't bring myself to wear ankle grazers as I always feel like people might think I can't get trousers the right length!

Placemarking!

I'm 6ft and feel like a frump. I wear lts jersey basics, super skinny jeans and jumpers. Next for work trousers and cardigans... but I NEED some tops for work, without flowers or polyester.

there's a FB LTS buying and selling site that I've joined recently which has lots of likeminded ladies.

HRTpatch · 02/04/2018 13:36

Anyone else had a LTS ad pop up???

This made me giggle. It is so true!

Have you got a link to the FB group @Passthecake30 ?

I’m 42 and mostly buy from Topshop Tall and Gap Tall. I find LTS expensive and poor quality.

Theromanempire · 02/04/2018 13:51

My bug bear with Next is that they will, say, have a reasonable shaped jumper in about 6 colours but the Tall version will only cone in black (or navy if you are lucky) Angry same with vest tops - veritable rainbow to choose from in the standard range but if you are tall, you can have black or white!

As a tall size 16, I need tops that go below my stomach area to disguise it and it is a constant struggle to do so 😣

Elledouble · 02/04/2018 13:53

I’m only 5’9” but have long legs and arms and a short body. I would like longer tops generally (my tummy isn’t what it once was and tops that finish just below the waist are in no way flattering) - usually I can get away with regular tops but everything seems to be almost cropped at the moment Sad

Trousers weirdly I find easier - most supermarkets seem to have a reasonable selection of long leg stuff.

SnooSigh · 02/04/2018 13:55

Last time I checked Next ‘tall’ trousers were only 33 inch and when we had a LTS the sizes were huge and I couldn’t get anything to fit my waist. M&S jeans in long are around 34 inches so okay for me but may be too small for properly tall people. I find Joules are quite good at longer length jumpers. But I really struggle with tops.

SnooSigh · 02/04/2018 13:58

Primark do vest top dresses which make good vest tops!

YourEmailInboxIsFull · 02/04/2018 14:11

@Snoosigh we have a huge primark where I am and have previously brought their shirt /blouse dresses as tops with my leggings.

Hopefully that works!

V frustrating for me too. Although I've recently discovered Next's 360 jeans come in XXL (36") and they're great. But if I want to wear any sort of heel I need a 37/38 inside. I'm 6'2 and long all over. In my 40s with a small child. I live in skinnies and long baggy jumpers basically.

Thanks

For work, I find Hobbs shift dresses sit quite well on me - the waistline skims and they're cut so they finish on the knee on (6 foot) me. I wear them with a blazer or a cardie. I got some blazers from Zalando tall, and a couple of them are OK, though one is a nylon job that gives me static hair!

Mint velvet are OK for body length, but sleeves are a bit skimpy.

I can't stand the materials in New Look, my hot flushes need a lot more cotton involved than they provide.

LTS are hopeless - frumpy, and the stuff I have bought from there has not worn well. They did some cracking jeans a couple of years back, but then discontinued them.

I've embraced the ankle skimmer look with some Reiss trousers recently - their slim fit trousers look like quite an elegant 7/8 length on me. Their tops are quite a good length, but I have struggled to style them.

Gap has some longer line stuff, and again has the odd nugget of a great jean in a 35 inch leg. But it's hit and miss. I've scored big in their outlet shop - nobody else wants the stuff that fits me!

Good luck, OP, I feel your pain and thanks for starting the thread - a few good ideas here.

SophoclesTheFox · 02/04/2018 15:52

Oooh, I forgot - M&S high waisted jeggings in Long are properly high waisted so they don't let my muffin top escape AND they reach my ankles! Until I find jeans that actually bloody fit, they are tiding me over.
