What do you think of this jacket?

I am going on a european city break, weather will be variable, min 6 max 16 degrees, fair bit of rain probably. There's will be lots of walking. I have realised I only have my thick puffer jackets and a smart work coat, as well as three trench coats, none of which I feel are suitable.

I have bought this jacket out of desperation as I clearly have left it too late. I was hoping for better weather I guess...

Anyway, will I regret this? I will collect it today by the way, haven't tried it on yet. I am 48 years old and 5.2".

I think that's nice and practical whilst being stylish.
I may have to procure one for myself so cheers OP

Looks good!

dudsville · 31/03/2018 09:26

I don't like the coat but also given what you've described I would opt for nice layers under one of your trench coats.

PNgirl · 31/03/2018 09:27

I think you'll get a lot of wear out of that! It's a nice shape.

MagnifyingGlassSearch · 31/03/2018 09:34

you might be right dudsville...

And it would be cheaper...

I'm not at my slimmest though, I wonder just how many layers I can fit under my trench coat...

Oh I love it. I think I'll be getting one of these myself.

Ohyesiam · 31/03/2018 09:39

Nice

Yewtown · 31/03/2018 09:41

I think the coat is very wintery looking. I agree that layers are the way to go. How about something like this

It’s fairly unremarkable. Difficult to form an opinion on either way. Would suit anyone of any age or style. It’s a generic parka. The only thing I would say is that I don’t like front-facing patch pockets on a parka...I much prefer side pockets, which are more comfortable to put your hands in. On that factor alone I wouldn't buy it.

Some lovely coats here in the French Connection sale - I like the ombre ones!

Might it be a bit warm as its a padded coat? Also the big pockets all over it make it look very bulky, so not very flattering. Overall not keen.

How about a mac from Boden/Seasalt/Ilse Jacobsen? You could easily fit a thinnish layer underneath. Think they would look much better.

Starryskiesinthesky · 31/03/2018 10:10

I like it but agree it looks very wintery and heavy.

I would go for layers.

butterfly990 · 31/03/2018 10:33

I would buy a uniqlo duck down coat that bundles down into a small packet to wear under a mac. they are very light weight, take up minimal room and quite warm.

I'm the same age as you and going on a European city break next week to a notoriously rainy place which will be about 18 degrees.

I have gone for this sea salt Mac (has a parka fishtail shape at the back) and plan to wear layers ( camis, knits underneath) . The pale denim like blue is a good neutral to match a lot of my clothes:

(The first model shot isn't good. Makes jacket look boxy and shapeless which it isn't )
