What bag would you put with this jacket?

I just treated myself to this brown leather jacket from Mint Velvet: www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/tan-leather-biker-jacket/14437

The problem is my current handbag is pale grey, and doesn’t go at all. So now I’m in the market for a new handbag. But what would you put with it? All the brown leather ones I’ve found are too light. Thanks.

Light as in pale tan, not as in lightweight.

Gorgeous jacket.

Burgundy bag, maybe?

TroubledLichen · 30/03/2018 20:57

Great jacket!

Shock that you only have one handbag, time to remedy that sharpish! Dark red would look great, if you’re wearing it with black jeans like the model in the pic then black could work too. Otherwise maybe tan?!

mercurymaze · 30/03/2018 20:58

something hippy/fabric

putonyourdancingshoes · 30/03/2018 21:09

Black velvet with tassels/fringing maybe?

putonyourdancingshoes · 30/03/2018 21:10

Suede even not velvet !

JoJoSM2 · 30/03/2018 21:23

It a very casual jacket so I'd go with a rucksack or a large slouchy bag. If you haven't got many bags, then a nuetral colour could be more versatile.

MadMaryBoddington · 30/03/2018 22:02

Thanks for the ideas. Any suggestions of actual bags? Slouchy and casual is probably the way forward - I’m not a very dressy person.

I know it’s a bit odd to just have one bag! Whenever I buy a new one I tend to sling the old one in a cupboard and then never get it out again. Then eventually they get charity shopped. If you have a selection of bags, how do you find the time to move all your stuff between them?!

This looks nice: www.whitestuff.com/accessories-and-shoes/womens-accessories/dark-scarlet-red-plain-shea-hobo-bag/

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/03/2018 13:31

Great price!

MadMaryBoddington · 31/03/2018 13:48

I like that, thanks Remus. It’s a bit on the large side though; I’m trying to reduce bag size as I have a bad back and I inevitably just fill bags with crap so they get heavy and I end up achey. I’m wondering if a cross body bag would be a good idea.

What about this one in Burgundy www.notonthehighstreet.com/theleatherstore/product/amesbury-leather-pocket-hobo-bag I have it in brown and love it, it's big enough to get everything in but not so huge that it looks like an overnight bag and the leather gets better with age.

Or this one in teal if you wanted something brighter www.notonthehighstreet.com/theleatherstore/product/brown-leather-pleated-shoulder-bag

zolaaa · 31/03/2018 15:21

I think either the black or pale tan colour bags from here would work... www.oushka.com/ and in the sale!

MadMaryBoddington · 31/03/2018 23:33

I love that Amesbury bag GreyHare! Thanks for that. I hadn’t thought to look on Notonthehighstreet.

Oushka is a new one on me. Nice stuff.

Maybe this?

Love the jacket.

MadMaryBoddington · 01/04/2018 16:13

Ooh I love that one too. They only seem to have it available in the orangey tan though, not the lovely dark brown.

Ollie & Nic do a great line in cross body bags, I've got a couple of them myself & they're a great size. Small enough so they don't give you backache, but big enough to fit your purse, phone, keys & random crap in.

MadMaryBoddington · 01/04/2018 17:32

Now I’m spoilt for choice. I like that little side pocket for phones on the Fossil bag. The hobo style is my favourite but I am tempted by the smaller cross body bags, for back health. Going on holiday soon where we will be doing a lot of mooching, so it would be good to avoid the usual achey shoulder/back.

Decisions...

Thanks for all the suggestions by the way - I haven’t posted in Style and Beauty before but I’ll definitely be doing so again! Smile

@GreyHare that first Amesbury bag is gorgeous - just what I've been looking for. And the price. Thank you.

CountFosco · 01/04/2018 17:49

Leather jackets do bring all kinds of dilemmas don't they. I have a midnight navy one and bought myself a bright blue bag to go with it. You need a colour contrast between a leather bag and leather jacket and shoes. Agree with the PP who said a black bag would work. Or a fabric bag so you have a texture contrast so you don't need to worry about colour so much.

MadMaryBoddington · 01/04/2018 21:08

Oh dear I think you might be right about a contrast. There is a danger of being too matchy isn’t there? I’m not sure about black though. I love green and wear a lot of it; what do you think about a green bag? Could that work? Fabric would make a nice change with summer coming up.

Dark green suede would be good,
