Why is my hair greasy but dry at the same time!? Solutions please!

As my title states, my hair seems to always look greasy, but at the same time it looks very dry and unhealthy. I've been using an Elvive Shampoo, think it's called oily roots and dry ends. Nothing seems to be solving it though. Any suggestions?

Do you over wash? Scalp overproducing sebum to stop drying out, and ends becoming dry from the over washing too.

Or is your hair curly? The sebum produced at the scalp often has more difficulty coating the length of the hair as the hair shaft is slightly more oval on curly hair compared to straight.

I'd suggest a cleansing shampoo, (something with fruit juices like lemon to help break down oily build up) and a good conditioner, maybe try a hair mask once a week or so? You can also get some great scalp treatments to rebalance, or a little diluted lavender essential oil in a spritz bottle could really help balance the sebum production.

Thank you for your advice, I'll definitely look out and try a cleansing shampoo. I wash every 2 days, which I'm always told by my hairdresser is the best amount of time to leave it. My hair is wavy rather than curly, although some sections are very frizzy and add to the general dry look of my hair.

Can highlighting your hair cause your hair texture to change/cause it to get greasy quicker?

Try using a mask that is lightweight but hydrating so it doesn't clog up your roots but calms the ends- I really rate the Kerastase Masquintense for fine hair:
