Hi all,

Recently I have been getting lot of bumps on my skin. Attaching a picture. It's sometimes more pink than this picture. I also have a big pimple in the area where the neck meets the chin. Here is a routine I follow:

Am
Avene cleanser
Paula's choice 2% bha lotion
Estee day wear cream
Green people sun cream

Pm
Garner micellar water
Avene cleanser
Ordinary 0.5% retinol (every other day)
Estee night wear

Can I ask for an opinion of what I am doing wrong? Oh I use Mac foundation daily with mascara and lip gloss for work.

Join the Dr Sam Bunting Skincare club group on facebook if you’re on it .

BHA could be causing purging . If it’s pinkness you may have rosacea mildly and I’d recommend an Azaliac Acid treatment . Post on the group and you will get heaps of response usually xx

Also these estee creams - what’s the ingredient list like? Might not be great .

I’d recommend a cream like La Roshe posey Toleriane or Cerave .

Those creams your using are terribly overpriced for no active ingredients

Thank you for your advice. I'll have at the group. I guess I also switch to a mild cream for a few days. Is blue Nivea good or cetaphil? Seems to be rated well in some forums online.

That's a lot of products, I'dgo less rather than more

How about literally doing nothing to your skin for a few weeks (maybe a light non comedogenic moisturiser if skin feels dry)

The less I do to my skin, the better it is (am 40s)

Catsandkids78 · 26/03/2018 22:42

It isn’t a lot of products at all!

No to blue Nivea it contains paraffin and no to Cetaphil in my opinion .

I use daily currently AM: cleanser, HA Serum, Antioxident and sunscreen . PM : cleanser, Niacinamide, retinol and light moisturizer over the top ( Toleriane) and have the best skin of my life !

Not treating issues won’t make them go away

Catsandkids78 · 26/03/2018 22:42

Also you need daily SPF . Moisturizer doesn’t really do much except lock in the other layers

Hi thanks all for your suggestions. I am probably not using the right products or in right order. Can you please suggest the brand for serum. I am now looking at various forums to put together a routine for sensitive uneven congested skin. I am 38 so probably need anti aging serums and sun cream. I am ordering toleraine (I can't even spell it properly) to start with.

I'd try no7 calming serum inbetween micellar water cleanser and a light moisturizer. your using loads of products and to me your skin looks a bit agitated.

Catsandkids78 · 26/03/2018 23:28
  • moisturizer has no real benefit
  • what are the actives in no7 that you think will work here?

Have you posted on the facebook group yet and I can bump it - we are a very informed group :p

Catsandkids78 · 26/03/2018 23:29

Stay fit your product order is fine . I would just potentially swap the moisturizers out for something less potentially irritating to seal your actives in :) that’s all it is really good for .

Thank you all for your comments. Yesterday I didn't use my regular moisturizer and tried some aveeno which I use for my son. It seems to sort of 'calm' the skin. I didn't have the redness. I still seem to have the bumps but I am holding on the retinol for a few days and might use the bha every other day. Should I switch to milder cleaner? This is what I use www.lookfantastic.com/avene-cleanance-cleansing-gel-6.7fl.-oz-us/11117590.html. I get a tight feeling after I use it.

La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser, CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser or Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser - very gentle cleansers. The Avène you're using is for oily/acne skin and is probably too drying which is why it feels tight. The LRP Toleriane moisturiser could be good as well.

I'd highly recommend a hydrating toner. It's good for all skin types and helps soothe, balance and calm your skin. Korean ones are the best. You could try this but there are many options. Hydration helps minimise fine lines and should make your skin feel soooo comfortable.

Are you in the UK or US?

stayfit · 28/03/2018 18:45

Thank you very much. I think I have to switch to a more gentle cleanser. My skin is more normal combination and dry-ish in winters. I am in UK now so the cold wave has made me drier I guess.

I found a sample of www.lookfantastic.com/estee-lauder-advanced-night-micro-cleansing-foam-100ml/11275227.html which I got as a gift with purchase long back. It's much more creamy than the avene gel so tried it and didn't feel the tightness. Does any one know a cheaper version of this?
