What to do with a special blue bead

KatyS36 · 24/03/2018 08:56

Hello,

Dd, age 8, bought me a present, using her own money of a single blue bead. There is a small back story, which I don't want to post for identification reasons, but it's reasonably simple and very sweet.

The bead is in a colour I like and is in a nice shape.

What do I do with it? I feel I should do something.

Dd suggested I could make it into a necklace, but it is too small for that. A keyring charm would be ideal, but I'm worried it might break.

Any ideas appreciated.

I'm in my, 40's with quite a clean minimalist style.

Thanks Katy

Would a bracelet work?

Mercurial123 · 24/03/2018 09:03

Sorry meant to say a leather or coloured string/silk.

Could you buy a small trinket box and have it embedded in the lid somehow?

KatyS36 · 24/03/2018 09:07

A bracelet is sort of the default option, especially as it could sit above my watch. Trying to decide if leather cord (is there such a thing?) would work, or if I need a chain. Happy for it to look like a child's gift as long as it looks nice.

Trinket box would be perfect, but I don't want one

A wine glass charm?

A mobile phone charm?

Take it to a bead shop, they will give you ideas. Also sell leather/silk cord or a chain. A snake type chain would look nice, the sort that looks like a cord. You'd thread it though and then attach the clasp.

Charm for your handbag or keyring do you have any crafty friends who could make you up something.

Google "single bead necklace" to see how even very small beads can make nice necklaces

KatyS36 · 24/03/2018 11:40

Lovely ideas, thanks all. Will look up local bead shop. That's a much better Google search term than I had been using. Have also found ebay sells leather cord by the meter.

Thanks all
Katy

That sounds really sweet. If she suggesred a necklace, could it be that she wants you to wear it as a necklace?
In which case, something like these? Not good examples at all but use ypur imagination.. :)

As a part of a drop down pendant thing:

Could you put it on a silver thread, between some crystals, and hang it up, so that the light catches it. That way, you'll never lose it, and it'll sparkle in the sunshine, sending rainbows round the room.

TollgateDebs · 24/03/2018 17:07

Put it into a small box frame, with a handwritten tag - let your DD do this - with date and the story of the bead.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 24/03/2018 17:27

Depending on size, I'd put it on a chain or cord:

or

(the last one would be good if the hole in the bead is too thin to be threaded onto a chain or cord)

This would also work as a bracelet.

If you'd prefer a pendant:

The pendant could be put on a necklace with beads or little stones if you want it to be more substantial, similar to this (squiggly metal bit at the bottom of the bead is optional):

Riskit, you've cracked it, thank you. Seeing how the single bead worked in those pictures inspired me.

I had a silver snake chain necklace, so I took off the pendent and put the bead on and it looked fab, very modern. I loved it and wore it out tonight as I genuinely thought it looked great. Dd was ecstatic 😀

Thanks everyone for all the other lovely ideas.

Katy
