What do you wear to work in an office?

I've recently gone back to an office based role, after years of something else. I am completely clueless about what I should be wearing. My job still involves a physical aspect, so anything I wear needs to be reasonably easy to move in and practical. Does anyone have any tips on what is and isn't acceptable?

How do they describe the dress code - business dress or business casual (or something else)?

Dontknowwhatimdoing · 24/03/2018 07:28

No idea. The dress code has never been mentioned. The men generally wear suits, with jackets off in the office. Women seem to wear all sorts.

There is your answer "women wear all sorts"
So you can too

If you've already started and seen what people wear, is there something in particular you're not sure about?

I wear dresses most of the time, it's easier than thinking about which top/skirt/trouser combination works best!

If it's colder, I wear a jacket if it's a smart day and a cardigan if it's a more casual day.

Trousers or knee length skirt and tights. Top half anything from smart t-shirt and (I usually iron them for work) to shirt and either cardigan, smart jumper or jacket. I would not expect vest tops, especially with skinny straps, chunky or saggy knitwear or jeans but pretty much anything else goes.

I am a scientist so am only partly office based so have to wear flat shoes that cover my foot. I wear brogue or loafers with ankle grazing trousers (Gap bistretch are the best) and a silk blouse. Or dresses, I have a large collection of work dresses. Or skirts and a thin knit jumper.

I wear either black knee length dresses, black trousers with a smart top or a stretchy knee length straigtht skirt with a smart top. All with some form of boots.
