Need fake nail advice please

I am a false nail newby. I think I have heard of false nails or acrylics ( not sure of the difference) that so not damaging to your growing nails underneath? Is this true or have I dreamed this? Thank you

I've honestly never heard of this. With a gel polish it lets your normal nails grow out whilst the polish is on, would it be this?

Lots of people in the north are going in for acrylics again, they've definitely made a comeback. Personally they're not for me but lots of colleagues wouldn't be without them and say they've improved a lot. Have a look on the FB pages of local salons

Are acrylics harsh to your own nails? Ideally I would only like them for a few week and allow my own nails to grow underneath.

Op, that generally doesn't work as a) the nail has to be roughed up on the surface for the product to adhere and b) nails don't like being covered and go soft and very bendy, sometimes papery, after contact with files, acrylic and acetone.
That said, a thin coating of acrylic does make your nails strong and hard and varnish bonds to it and lasts forever. If you can find someone who does a thin, natural acrylic coating they look very nice too.

I nails or express nails are basically false nails stuck on with acrylic instead of glue so they last longer then gelled over.

I think this could be what you're talking about. Some friends wear these for 4 weeks at a time.

I'm a former nail technician. They'll be damaged underneath but they'll toughen up again when they're taken off. If you're looking for them to strengthen your nails, they won't. You can have them removed professionally and don't pick them off but it's not guaranteed they'll be in good condition.

OP scrap the fake nails, buy OPI nail envy, wear it every day and your nails will grow AND be strong. I don't work for them. I have rubbish nails and whenever I use nail envy they're brilliant within a week or so.

@Pringlemunchers try SNS so much better for your nails, it is suppose to be full of vitamins etc.

SNS is good and they can put extensions on if you want your nails longer

Acrylics on now for 4 years without a break. I couldn't give a shit what it's doing to my nails underneath, they look pretty. 💁🏼‍♀️
