I went to a personal styling session in our local department store yesterday. The stylist was super nice and found me quite a few things which fit really well and I duly bought.

Today, I think I need to return a few things as I feel it’s a bit excessive and want to save a few ££ for summer holiday wear etc.

So here’s what I got:
Ombré jumper, in white pink purple
2 stripy tshirts (coral and grey, red and white)
Off white grandad style top from white stuff (it’s really nice)
2 navy and white blouses - one long sleeve (combination stripes and small polka dots) and covers my behind, the other shorter sleeves, kind of nice for going to dinner etc
1 dark wash skinny jeans
1 navy lightweight fabric chino
1 smart navy skinny jeans (navy stitching)
1 really dark khaki skinny jeans
1 navy and white stripe knit blazer (whistles)

My current wardrobe is fairly lean and due an update.

Please help - maybe reducing the tops? And do I need 3 pairs of trousers/jeans in the navy team??

Thanks so much!

There's a variety of colourings in the tops - do all of the colours suit you?

I'm not a fan of chinos on myself so I'd be tempted to lose those

What height/size are you

Uniglo18 · 14/03/2018 17:43

I'd take out all your clothes and lay them on the bed and then see if the new clothes go with your existing clothes. If not, then they can be returned to the shop.

adayatthebeach · 14/03/2018 17:45

Sorry I’m not much help I’d keep them all. They sound perfect.

ilovecherries · 14/03/2018 17:46

Did she put them together in outfit combinations for you? If you've got, say, 14 different outfits there where everything works together, then that's one thing, but if it's just a collection of stuff then I'd weed it out a bit. I'd also think about what gaps are to make these into complete outfits, e.g., bags, shoes, light knitwear. That might help you decide what to keep. Sounds like a good session though :)

WowOoo · 14/03/2018 17:49

I think you should put them into a need and want pile. You need 1 for work and 1 casual. Get rid of one navy pair of trousers. Put them in a preference order.

I need some navy work trousers, I want another jumper. That kind of thing.
Then, look at cost and how much you'll actually wear each item. Be brutal - as if you are telling someone else what they need. Get a second opinion. My husband is good at this! My friend is more generous.

Viviene · 14/03/2018 17:52

Not helpful but I would keep them all bar the jeans as I am into boyfriend jeans atm.
Now I want a styling session too!

VeganCheese · 14/03/2018 17:53

Decide the things you absolutely love and rank them down to 'nice but not my favourites'. Take the things that don't make you happy when you put them on back to the shop.

INXS · 14/03/2018 18:08

I’d return the ombré jumper, one pair of navy jeans (whichever is less flattering/less useful) and one of the blue and white shirts.

Is that enough items?

AiryFairy1 · 14/03/2018 19:17

Oh wow thanks for all your lovely and helpful replies! I’ve got them all on the bed now with some of the existing items, and will do a “show” for DH (Grin) and get his opinion- he’s actually very useful (blunt) in making these type of decisions!
INXS- that’s kind of what I was thinking, thank you 👍

I would get rid of the ombré jumper-ombré is on the way out. And the ‘smart’ skinny jeans. The term itself is an oxymoron.

Ladybirdbookworm · 14/03/2018 19:41

What did you decide ???
I want a stylist too Grin

AiryFairy1 · 14/03/2018 22:18

Yes, the ombré is outy mcOut ;) and the red stripy. Possibly the navy and white spotty stripy but I’m thinking of keeping all the trews but will sleep on it again.
I’d say the styling session (2 hours) was definitely time well spent if you’re not a massive fan of shopping as am I.

Get rid of one navy skinny jeans, andine stripy top. It’ll be summer soon, so get rid of the long sleeved one.
