How can I change the most beautiful skirt?

I am turning to the collective MN wisdom as I need some brilliant advice please. I have the most beautiful skirt, it is a long silky russet bronze colour and there is a great deal of material. It has a under lining of more silkiness and netting. It was part of my prom outfit when I was 18- I am late 30s now and haven't worn it since. The waist is too tight sadly. It is too long and formal to wear as a skirt. But I think it is beautiful- I would love to wear it. I don't want a shorter skirt as I don't wear skirts. I do wear dresses but it can't be strapless as I have big boobs. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be turned into? I don't want to waste it on cushions, it is so beautiful I want to wear it.

I wear what would be termed as formal skirts on the hanger, in an informal way quite a lot. With thick soled Adidas superstars or metallic Supergas/ converse. Sometimes fishnet socks in the winter. A slogan sweatshirt or t-shirt tucked in. Statement bag or oversized bag, maybe with a pop of colour.

If someone could sort the waist by letting it out or altering it in some way, is this an option?

can you unpick the waistband and make into wide leg trousers , or a
long length tunic

Assuming it's floor length I'd be inclined to let out the waistband and shorten it a bit, more to a mid-calf length, which could make it more wearable.

Or a lovely pair of wide leg trousers may be an option, but you may lose a bit of leg length in order to let out the waistband and create the seat.

Another option is to completely unpick it and have it made into a top instead.

I can see why you want to wear it again, what a gorgeous colour!

As you don’t want another skirt, do you have a favourite style of top or shirt? I would find a very capable seamstress and ask her to use the fabric to make you something. I can sort of imagine something like
this perhaps.

If there was a reasonable amount left you could have a crack at making a simple clutch bag. Lots on online tutorials.
