Estée Lauder double wear

So I've been to both Debenhams and house of Fraser to be told they can't provide a sample. This has happened a few times so I contacted Estée Lauder direct. They say they don't give them out but will refund a bottle of it's not suitable.
This is so annoying, they are £33 a bottle and I think maybe 2-3 'look' right but it's a gamble.

Is it worth the money? And also does anyone have fairish skin and what colour do you use? I'd prefer a warmer tone than a pink as think i look washed out.
Thanks

I go between EL DW and MAC Pro Longwear. For some reason, DW doesn't like my winter skin Hmm.

I'd say it's worth the price but I wouldn't be happy spending the money without at least trying it first. Have you tried Boots? They gave me what was meant to be a three day sample but lasted a week.

I'm quite fair and Desert Beige is a good match. That was thanks to the EL woman telling me the lighter shade was washing me out completely. I thought it looked okay Confused

CoperCabana · 08/03/2018 15:12

You need to try it first. I was allergic. Can you get them to do your make up and test it that way?

shoesbagsandbabies · 08/03/2018 15:16

I've always been given samples of DW (I've used it for years but get samples for colour changes when I've had a tan etc). Debenhams, House of Fraser, Boots and John Lewis have all let me have little 10ml sample bottles of different shades. It's always at the actual Estée Lauder counter I don't know if that makes a difference.

I'd try again somewhere else.

shoesbagsandbabies · 08/03/2018 15:17

Also I am very fair, and I use Shell which is the lightest shade they do. It's very pale though so it wouldn't suit many people.

WellTidy · 08/03/2018 15:24

I use double wear light, as I have dry skin, and normal double wear us too drying. I am pale, I use 1.0. I didn't get a sample the first time I tried it, the assistant put it on me and I looked at myself wearing it at different points during the day.

Thanks for the replies.
I've honestly been to all those places listed and have no sample as yet..my boots only has a woman able to give samples on a Tuesday between 7&8pm and it's not near me?
I thought maybe sand..does anyone else use this one?

The counter at our House of Fraser gives samples in tiny bottles?

I also use Desert Beige. I've used it for years and every now and then I try something new but always come back to double wear for the coverage and longevity. I have oily skin and it is one of the very few foundations that never oxidises on me.
I was initially matched as Fresco but thought it was a bit dark (only very slightly but I wasn't 100% happy with it) so switched to Desert Beige which is one shade lighter and perfect.

Rumblemumble · 08/03/2018 17:19

Ester Lauder in John Lewis gave me 10day sample this week. Although I’m not happy with the shade match even though she used the machine thing. She matched me with desert beige (seems to be their favourite shade!) but I look completely washed out. It’s definitely too pale. Very impressed with the coverage and how long lasting it is though.

CastielIsMyAngel · 08/03/2018 17:46

I got colour matched with one of those special face machines then tried my match on me to see if I was happy with it (this was in Boots)

S0ph1a · 08/03/2018 17:50

I have fair skin and wear double wear Light in 1.0. I have quite sallow skin and it has a yellow base which works well for me. Also I like to match my skin colour exactly and add colour with blush if necessary.

MonaTheMoaner · 08/03/2018 17:53

Sand is the lightest warm tone and works well. I switch between Bone and Sand.

MonaTheMoaner · 08/03/2018 17:54

Sorry, Desert Beige. I'm Ecru.

PretABoire · 08/03/2018 17:54

You can get samples on eBay for a few quid, they’re actually not bad value as 5ml is 1/6 of a bottle so worth over £5

PretABoire · 08/03/2018 17:56

I’ve been using shell for years, coverage and longevity are amazing and I have combination skin. I mix it with liquid highlighter / moisturiser unless my skin is appalling so a bottle usually lasts me 6-8 months.

MummytoCSJH · 08/03/2018 18:01

They definitely can give samples!

CastielIsMyAngel · 08/03/2018 18:08

I’m Rattan but I’ve got quite olive skin

Firsttimemama2017 · 08/03/2018 18:11

I got a free sample at boots a few months ago so maybe try there? Unless they’ve stopped doing it?

shouldawouldadid · 08/03/2018 18:38

Estée Lauder definitely provide samples all the time, it’s part of their “services”, not sure why you have regularly been told otherwise. Most premium houses do nowadays, YSL, Clinique and Dior that I’m aware of

I got a sample in Boots last week and a friend got hers in Debenhams so they definitely give them, this was in Newcastle

DextroDependant · 08/03/2018 18:49

I love it. I am Pale Almond which is a medium shade. John Lewis colour matched me with a machine and gave me a 10 day sample.

If you are happy with your shade in another brand Google findation. It will twll you what shade is likely to suit.

ImGoingForATwix · 08/03/2018 18:52

That's so odd. I've never had issues getting samples from the EL counter. They should at least offer an in-store colour match. I'd be tempted to flounce off to another counter who wants your custom! Although ELDW is the best!
