I’m never on the style and beauty section but this is a last ditch attempt to look good! It’s my 30th this weekend and I’m going out for cocktails with a group of my closest friends. Problem is I always look boring and frumpy next to the girls! They’re all so stylish and just seem to know how to dress. I have an outfit planned - black leggings and a black flowy top. This is what I ALWAYS wear. This morning everyone’s talking about what they’ll be wearing in the group WhatsApp and I’m wondering if it’s not to late to find a killer outfit online, order next day delivery and hopefully be the one getting the compliments for a change. Can anyone help me?? I have no idea where to even start....or should I just drink loads of cocktails so I pass the point of caring?

What celebrities do you like the style of? Think of a couple then look on Pinterest for similar styles.

clueless015 · 08/03/2018 14:14

I don’t really know...I really never take notice of celebrities and fashion. Guess that’s half my problem! Thanks for the idea though. I did think of going on Pinterest but wasn’t really sure what to look up

Leggings for a special night out or any night out actually, aren't going to do you any favours.
Go shopping with one of your stylish friends.

clueless015 · 08/03/2018 14:30

Yes totally aware of this unfortunately. I suppose I’ve just been stuck in a Style rut - I’m not massively confident so it was always just comfortable to stick with what I know. When I go shopping with a friend I do try to get pointers but I don’t really get any because they’re obviously there to shop for themselves and get carried away with that (fair enough).

Can you give us an idea of your height, body shape etc? what colours suit you best?

silver1977 · 08/03/2018 14:35

Would you feel comfortable wearing a dress? If not, maybe smart skinny jeans, a top with a bit of sparkle and some heels? I personally like wearing a dress when I go out with the girls just because I don't get chance to wear one much! Makes me feel better and more dressed up! Have a look on the sites where next day delivery is a guarantee and see what you think.

I’m 5ft3, size 8 kind of straight up and down but quite generous sized boobs. Sallow skin dark eyes and long dark hair. I don’t know what suits me but I don’t think grey, nude or navy do me any favours...

I would definitely wear a dress - would need to be smart casual rather than anything too dressy though

Seeing as it's your birthday I think it's a great idea you're thinking of a change, you need to look more special as the birthday girl! As a size 8 I should imagine a lot of things suit you too!

Synecdoche · 08/03/2018 14:49

Omg there WERE paragraphs I swear.

Also just seen your update about smart/casual...

WhingyNinja · 08/03/2018 14:56

Oh I love the pretty and simple lace mustard dress!

stoplickingthetelly · 08/03/2018 15:10

How about a jumpsuit?

sportyfool · 08/03/2018 16:09

With that figure it would be criminal to wear leggings and flowery top for a n get out .
How about some coated jeans and a nice top and heels ? Or a dress with ankle boots ?
Anything really except leggings if you can help it 😬

silver1977 · 08/03/2018 17:37

Agree with PP Grin some good suggestions. A jumpsuit is a good idea, you only need to think of one thing then! How are you doing OP? Have you been looking/ordering?

clueless015 · 08/03/2018 20:09

Sorry about disappearing - my 1 year old decided to wake up from his nap early and has been very high maintenance ever since! Right, firstly huge thank you for all your suggestions! I have ordered two of the dresses (mustard lace dress and the lace black one - but that one for a more dressy occasion) plus one I found myself and a pair of coated jeans. I’ve actually been wanting some for a while and I think the realisation that leggings are such a no no has given me a push! Also ordered a few tops. No idea if any of it will work but my toddler needs to nap a bit longer tomorrow so I can try it all on Grinthanks again for the suggestions
