Hair advice please - how do I get from here to here (pics)

I NEVER go to the hairdressers apart from a trim. I've been semi perm dying my hair since I can remember. As you can tell it's a very dark brown.

I'd really like t go to a rich chocolate brown color with some other slight colors in it - picture attached.

Do I need my hair bleaching first seeing as I want to go lighter? I'm petrified of hairdressers as i only had nightmare experiences when I was younger ( poodle perms & god awful blonde highlights)

Not sure why it won't upload my photo but if you google dark brown balayage then that's the thing I'm after..

The good news is what you have all over your hair is good for the roots of what you want. You definitely need a hairdresser and a decent on at that.

I would be asking for a bayalage and showing the after photo you have.

Where abouts do you live? I'm in the north east and for that kind of hair do I would expect to pay around £80-£100 in a decent salon for cut and colour.

The good thing is, once the initial style is done it will be a lot cheaper as you would only need roots doing for a while.

That looks like a bayalage as the pp above says.

They hand paint the colour onto your hair for a more natural look than highlights. They will use bleach but as you are only wanting to go a bit lighter it shouldn't wreck your hair.

Agree with taking the pic you have along to a good colourist, who should be able to do that for you.
