DIY oversized bow tie

I need to create something like the attached this afternoon (so online orders are out but I am planning on a quick High Street mission!). I am utterly clueless about where to begin. Surely it’s not as simple as just buying thick satin ribbon from a haberdashery and tying it in a bow around my neck? Or is it? (Hopeful!). It’s to go round a high necked/collared dress (no persuading me out of it, tis all planned!). Thanks so much! xx

That is probably made out of two or three different pieces but I think you could get a good substitute by going to the haberdashers, buying some thick satin ribbon and tying it in a bow around your neck.

It would be best if you could find double-sided satin ribbon. Some of them are only shiny on one side.

Have a look in YouTube for videos of tying perfect bows as there a real knack to stop them going sideways.

You may want to squash the bow parts a bit flat to make it more bow tie-like but otherwise I think you’ll be good to go

Music to my ears (particularly about the shiny on both sides ribbon as this was a concern!). THANK YOU! xxx

You’re welcome! Smile
Hope it turns out ok.
