Style at the Oscars

Your thoughts please on the style at the Oscars.
Jane Fonda - wow - she's 80
Jennifer Garner - looked lovely as did
Saoirse Ronán
Margot Robbie dress was pretty, she could wear a sack and look good.
JLaw- I didn't like her dress. That black one she wore freezing in the snow in London was nicer on her.
Salma - all the choices she could have had and she wore that !
Nicole Kidman - the dress wore her.
Whoopi - No. Just No.
Camilla Alvares - lovely dress.

I stayed up watching the ceremony. I wondered whether pink/purple was a pussypower choice: Saw a lot of that plus white-out gowns. Also electric blue and metallics.
I liked Jennifer Garner the best. Also Laura Dern, Gal Gabot and Zendaya. The pale pinks washed out the actresses.

YaBasic · 05/03/2018 07:33

Elza Gonzalez looked lovely in yellow.
Patrisse Cullors probably the worst but activist rather than actress.

YaBasic · 05/03/2018 07:36

Sorry, elouise you were of course on the same thread at the start. Did you enjoy it or did you go to bed?

eloisesparkle · 05/03/2018 07:41

I didn't watch it. I'll watch the highlights tonight and buy Hello ( the only time in the year I do , unless there's a big Royal wedding) and enjoy looking at the style.

It took a long time. Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren's dresses were missteps, they normally look better. Frances Mcd has not had particularly flattering dresses throughout the awards season either but assume she has absolutely no fucks to give. Smile

Auldspinster · 05/03/2018 07:51

Jonny Greenwood looked fab in his tux and was robbed in the best score category.

PhyllisWig · 05/03/2018 08:01

Alison Janney looked fab I thought

Elledorado · 05/03/2018 08:11

No standout dresses for me but I'm loving all the blunt cut wavy bobs

Sevendown · 05/03/2018 08:26

I loved the blue and purple dresses. I think they were worn by Jennifer Garner and Ashley Judd?

Too many plunging necklines for my liking.

YaBasic · 05/03/2018 13:21

miley cyrus gold and black dress was nice

The supporting actresses looked incredible - Alison Janney's red dress was a highlight.

Saoirse's dress reminded me of Gwyneth's pink gown from the 90s that she wore when she won the Oscar.

Js -Gar and -Law looked good too, and Gal Gadot's smile elevates any outfit.

No absolutely howlers at the ceremony though, but a few at the after parties.

JaneEyrror · 05/03/2018 16:37

I actually really liked Jennifer Lawrence’s dress. Saoirse Ronan looked really pretty.

Probably not to everybody’s tastes, but I loved Emily Blunt’s dress.

Jennifer Garner looked incredible too. That shade of blue was absolutely perfect.

ktel1 · 05/03/2018 17:36

I thought Helen Mirren looked really good as did Jane Fonda.

I didn't see too many that I liked, many people look like they're trying too hard. Less is more IMO and knowing what suits you

Alison Janey , Saoirse, Margot Robbie looked good- keeping it simple.

I personally didn't like Kidman's look but most people seemed to- just too OTT for me.

Salma Hayek's dress is just awful. I have no idea why she would wear that. She would look good in most things but this was a huge miss.

I admire Frances Mcdormand's attitude to all of this in a way.
She clearly has her own perspective on what's important in life and making an effort to glam up for these events doesn't feature.

EachandEveryone · 05/03/2018 17:39

Just wasnt feeling it. I stayed up all night as well!

NashvilleQueen · 05/03/2018 17:39

Lupita Nyong’o looked beautiful

BestIsWest · 05/03/2018 17:43

Alison Janney for me too.

AfterSchoolWorry · 05/03/2018 17:47

Jennifer Garner was the best.

Saoirse Ronan's wasn't nice. Bad colour for her skin.

eloisesparkle · 05/03/2018 19:47

Salma - all that money and choice and she chooses that Hmm

I would have got my roots done if I was up for an Oscar - Saoirse Shock

I loved Kristen Cavallari's dress.

Emma Stone looked great, very cool. Thought Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda looked good too.

Doobigetta · 05/03/2018 20:57

Some absolute horrors there. Zendaya's was the only one that blew me away. Jennifer Garner's also lovely. A few others ok. Otherwise, Envy. That's a boak, not envy. Jennifer Lawrence looks like a shadow of her former self- gaunt and drawn. Must be the blonde hair and the dark eye makeup, it just doesn't suit her to my eyes.

Figgygal · 05/03/2018 20:59

Thought Nicole kidmans dress was awful

Gal gadot and Margot Robbie were just stunning

BeaLola · 05/03/2018 22:48

I think it was the first time in ages that there wasn't anything that blew me away - there were some great looks but mostly looked like they had tried way too hard.

Salam Hayek was in a league of her own for most awful dress!

I did like Jane Fonda , Jennifer Garner, Allison Jannette, Helen Mirren and Margot Robbie,

I'm not a fan of let's leave your whole front exposed - I don't think it's sexy or interesting - just looks naff - less is more etc.

I did think Eva Marie Daint at 93 was true beauty.

I do sort of like Frances McDormand can't be doing with alll that faff attitude - she looks happy with herself/ life and 3+ hours that some take getting ready is never going to be her way

Thought Saoirse Ronans dresss did nothing for her and reminded me of Gwyhenths plus Ithough her hair looked awful. When she was nominated in past she wore amazing emerald dress.

Sandra Bullock looked weird around the face.

Lonoxo · 06/03/2018 10:45

The only ‘wow’ for me was Emma Stone’s suit. I think it was appropriate as she won last year and there’s no need to compete with this year’s nominees dresses, let them have their moment.
