Recently came off the pill after 20 odd years (with breaks for 2 dc) and my face keeps erupting with spots like a teenager - it’s really getting me down and I have no clue how to deal with it! I’ve always had combination skin but nothing like this - I need help!!

Acnecide. Amazing stuff. It will clear it up quickly. Stop using it once the spots have gone.

Savlon do a fast working gel (about £4) that's amazing!!

No doubt hormonal. I feel your pain. Had a number of spots on and off in my late forties but they have settled down more or less. I use Clearasil facial wash which is brilliant. Its the gel one and it just seems to keep them at bay. When my skin was worse, I put nothing on it at night. I felt it just made it worse. After cleansing though I used the nip and fab glycolic pads - the night ones. Used them morning and night. Then put my moisturiser over the top in the morning. I rarely now get spots I have to say.

I have night sweats too [am 50] and am going through the menopause so am surprised my spots are not worse. I have now been using retinol by the ordinary 1% and have built up using it and that probably also helps to temper spots.

I have had bad skin at same age. For me gentler products helped and nothing abrasive. Moisturising Simple face wash, Nip + Fab glycolic pads morning and night, unscented moisturiser, Acnecide (benzoyl peroxide based but not drying like the old firmukations) on the spots themselves. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve never had great skin but this is just ridiculous. Need to rethink my whole skincare routine to incorporate acne.

Yes its a hormonal thing. If it does not settle down go to your doctor - mine prescribed me a paint on antibiotic which worked a treat. Ironically my teen DD was prescribed the same!

I’m 47 and similar! I get under skin lumps which if squeezed leave a nasty scab and then a mark. I’ve been putting sudocrem on mine. Depressing!

ChishandFips33 · 06/03/2018 07:04

Wondering if the La Roche Posay effaclar three step would help

Mine aren't as bad but I've always been spotty until I started using this

I don't get monthly break outs any more (but I am still on the pill)

Hope you finds something that works, it's a crap time without all this going on!

If you are using acnecede be aware it can bleach any fabric it comes in contact with. It's great stuff but ds has destroyed a lot of towels and bedding with it.

I started using Sunday Riley's UFO face oil a few weeks ago and it's made a huge difference to my skin. It's amazing!

I've tried so many different products and this UFO oil, and Dermalogica are the only ones to have an ongoing impact.
