Chin hair nightmare

8SaltandVinegar · 04/03/2018 08:47

What started out as two single hairs on each side of my chin at aged 19 has now turned into a mountain of growth on each side. It seemed to get worse after I had my DC.

I can't afford laser. Bleaching won't work as my foundation would cling to it. I've plucked, trimmed and tried home waxing (fail). If I got a professional wax I couldn't stand the growing it out period.

Should I start shaving? Hmm

this is all v useful.

Roystonv · 07/03/2018 20:57

Just ordered one. I am at the stage of not believing how quick it all grows and then getting one hell of a shock on closer inspection. Heaven help me in my dotage.

MissWimpyDimple · 07/03/2018 21:30

Lumea has changed my life. And I'm not even joking.

Chin hairs gone. Nipple hairs gone. Bikini line a

snawdays · 07/03/2018 21:38

It’s one of the ways the Internet has improved my life - when you first start noticing the uptick in bristly hairs it’s very off putting.

I couldn’t get the hang of the wire coil thing, I’ve been threading mine at Superdrug but embarrassing! Braun epilator sounds worth a try!

HeyRoly · 07/03/2018 21:41

I have both course and downy hairs, and plenty of them. I found the spring thingy (technical term!) hurt like hell, but this is just the ticket:

www.qvcuk.com/The-Brow-Shaper-by-Lilibeth-of-New-York-Set-of-Two.product.400574.html?sc=Froogle&ref=fgl&source=froogle&cm_mmc=PPCSHOPPING--Google--Shopping-_-Beauty&utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=base&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqNy3tJbb2QIVT7ftCh24RwkqEAQYAiABEgIhO_D_BwE&

Technically a brow shaper but can be used anywhere. And QVC have a money back guarantee so you can try it out risk free.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 07/03/2018 21:42

I shave mine! Total old wives tale about growing back thicker etc. Quick zip with razor every couple of days, easy.

EnidButton · 07/03/2018 22:18

I couldn't get the springy thing to do anything at all. Mine's downy darkish hair in very pale skin rather than anything wirey or thick. I use the same as HeyRoly, about once every 2-3 weeks. Would do it more but my skin is sensitive and I don't want to cause any irritation. I get mine off Amazon. Really quick, completely painless and very effective. The hair has never grown back thicker or darker either.

Ariela · 07/03/2018 22:33

I've dark hair and go progressively darker. Used to have electrolysis but frankly after years of forking out it made no difference whatsoever. I found plucking with tweezers made it worse, and tended to encourage zits, so I minimised plucking by using very sharp embroidery scissors to trim off at skin level thus minimising 5 o'clock shadow, then allowing it to grow over a weekend or somewhen I wasn't going to be seen in public then plucking like mad as they grew through.

However I got fed up with the time waste of plucking plus the fact that a few had gone GREY and I didn't want old lady bristly grey beard!
So rather than back to electrolysis I tried laser. IMO for my dark hair the only effective thing that has worked is laser. I'm 2/3 the way through a 6 session course which I treated myself to after saving a few years worth of birthday/Christmas money, and can honestly say my chin hasn't looked this good since I was a teenager, and I'm saving almost as much as the laser costs in not buying huge varieties of concealers trying to find one that hides the ravages of ingrowing hairs/plucking/5 o'clock shadow.

DarthNigel · 08/03/2018 07:07

Lumea has helped me, but I still need to pluck the odd one that seems to grow to about a CM long when an hour before it wasn't there at all. Bloody hate it. It's a full time job keeping on top of it sometimes.

Get body waxing strips from Poundland. Cut them into smaller strips then heat with a hairdryer for 15/20 seconds. Press firmly into chin, hold skin taut then rip off against the direction of growth.

Quick, cheap and lasts at least 10 days. Much better than any other method.

Leonalou · 01/07/2018 15:00

Vanique Cream is available via your GP, so only cost is the prescription charge. you can continue with the cream for as long as you need and will need to as it wont continue working if you stop using it for good, so you can indefinatley get prescriptions for it.

Leonalou · 01/07/2018 15:10

adding to my last post about Vanique cream, the best way forward is laser hair removal. its costly but if you take into account that you may only need about 6 treatments for hair to stop growing back, over a lifetime of spending money on razors and creams and other short term hair removal products, it works out costly in the long term that way. hormones play a big part in it all hence why we have facial hair. talk to your doctor to ask if they can help with your hormone levels as there are some underlying reasons for excessive hair, weight and polycistic ovaries etc are some of the reasons, and diet not eating enough fruit and veg and a few dietry changes, some vitamins are helpful to give missing nutrient value as we are all different our bodies lack certain nutrient elements anyway. but yes, laser is at the present time the best way forward to make a real difference.

Leonalou · 01/07/2018 15:14

...and use vanique cream on prescription as well as having laser hair removal, a vanique will be there to keep the hairs from also coming back or if they do but in sparse areas, it will reduce the density of the hair thickness to fine and grow less frequent too, hopefully after all this you will be hair free.

Trilllllian · 01/07/2018 15:22

Springy thing is called an epistick. There’s a knack but it works really well.

AnguaResurgam · 01/07/2018 15:25

Do any actual shops sell Episticks?

Haffiana · 01/07/2018 20:24

Lumea completely sorted out my chin hairs. I actually rather miss plucking mine now as I found it both satisfying and therapeutic to pull them out.

Leonalou · 02/07/2018 01:49

Just read on Groupon website offers 6 laser treatments from £59.00 which is thier discount offer in beauty treatment salons in Uk.

dollybird · 02/07/2018 14:21

I haven't RTFT so apologies if anyone's already mentioned it, but I have a mini epilator that's for facial/bikini/underarm hair, and it's fab! I previously had very light, but thick curly hairs on my chin, and used to use veet or similar every few days. I use the epilator about once a week and it takes about a minute. I've had it for 8 years and only replaced the batteries a couple of times. Mine is made by emjoi, but I can't find it online, cost about £13. I only use it on my face. It stings a bit at first but you soon get used to it.
