Chin hair nightmare

8SaltandVinegar · 04/03/2018 08:47

What started out as two single hairs on each side of my chin at aged 19 has now turned into a mountain of growth on each side. It seemed to get worse after I had my DC.

I can't afford laser. Bleaching won't work as my foundation would cling to it. I've plucked, trimmed and tried home waxing (fail). If I got a professional wax I couldn't stand the growing it out period.

Should I start shaving? Hmm

I use veet hair removal cream

Sunbeam18 · 04/03/2018 10:38

Please don't shave or pluck excessively - it makes it worse. Electrolysis is good as it helps reduce the problem over time. Increase in growth will be hormonal.

Tantpoke · 04/03/2018 10:42

I got fed up plucking mine once they started sprouting quicker, now I shave as it gives me more control. It's wierd at first but just routine now. I shave a small area just under my chin.

woodhill · 04/03/2018 10:44

Won't plucking weaken hair in the same way as waxing. I pluck the odd chin hair

8SaltandVinegar · 04/03/2018 10:58

Oh I'm fed up. It was so fine to begin with and all the plucking seems to have made the hairs into bigger stronger feckers.

Is the Vaniqua that expensive? Maybe I need a chin implant.

My friend managed to get hers on prescription but I had to get a private one.

It's expensive but the last tube lasted me 18 months as it's only two patches I use it on. It certainly weakens them.

I ran out on holiday last year and felt like the bearded lady when I returned.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/03/2018 11:14

Springy thingy is called a facial epilator and is a thing of wonder. You may need to tweeze out the odd stubborn one, but it gets most out with no problem.

SnowShow1 · 04/03/2018 11:26

The coil thingy is called N epistick can be bought very cheaply on eBay!

SnowShow1 · 04/03/2018 11:27

An Epistick!

woodhill · 04/03/2018 12:42

Yes looks too good to be true

JDSTER · 04/03/2018 12:46

I saw those coil/ springy things in Primark the other day

woodhill · 04/03/2018 12:51

Is it a knack?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/03/2018 12:56

I found the spring thing useless, it seemed more suited to fine downy hair rather than stubborn wiry hair?

mommybear1 · 04/03/2018 12:59

Springy thing useless. Tried bleaching, plucking and shaving- now using braun epilator it seems better and has definitely weakened the corse ones.

Annabelle4 · 04/03/2018 13:00

I pluck mine every second night or so, once I'm sitting down to the TV for the night. I find it quite therapeutic Blush

Mortigua · 04/03/2018 13:07

Is vaniqa effective? I am so desperate I would consider it at the moment and would be cheaper than IPL which I had been considering. Its a pain, I have it everywhere and its worse since having a baby recently.

Bluelonerose · 04/03/2018 13:10

Been having my whole face threaded every couple of weeks for a few years now.
It's definatly made my moustache downy (but it's a massive improvement)
My chin has mostly gone downy but I get about a dozen hairs either side that are basically pubes!

If that cream works I'm happy to pay £80!

woodhill · 04/03/2018 13:12

Most of mine is fine so will springy thing work miracles or will I chuck it out of the window

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 13:18

using braun epilator it seems better and has definitely weakened the corse ones. is that a facial one, mommybear1? I have one for my legs, but holy feck it hurts!

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/03/2018 14:38

I dry shave & pluck on bright mornings.

RobsAKnob · 04/03/2018 15:14

I use the sensitive attachment on my Braun epilator. Hurts a bit at first, but not quite as much as waxing and nowhere near as painful as threading. I find it better to do before bed as it can make my skin slightly red and puffy. Little and often seems to work best but if I haven't done it for a while then a glass of wine first helps. I do my legs with it as well but I'm not brave enough to use it on my bikini line or my armpits.

MarthasGinYard · 04/03/2018 15:16

Vaniqa is effective for me but it is to be used along with another method ie waxing, electrolysis etc. So it's by no means a hair removal cream etc.

It slows down the growth and the hairs get much weaker and come out really easily and grow much more sparsely

I've been using on two small patches on my chin for well over two years and it does what it says on the tube. As I said earlier I ran out on holiday In October and was having to pluck at a rate of knots.

It only works on strong hairs so I don't use it on my rather finer more downy moustache Blush

This is just for my two patches of stubbly types Blush

MarthasGinYard · 04/03/2018 15:18

What has always put me off with the light and laser type salon treatments is that initial shave the have to do.Confused

Wings13 · 04/03/2018 15:19

Had quite a moustache for years (pcos related of course!) and honestly the only thing that worked was electrolysis- went once a week for around a year and then once every two weeks and now I only go when I need to- since becoming pregnant I have only been once and am due in a month. It is a slow process but it works!

NotLinkedInSnowedIn · 04/03/2018 15:25

Every day I pluck out about twenty hairs but I'm still paranoid about sitting in sun light. I think I have too many for electrolysis. how is vaniqua cream different from any other hair removing cream!? It costs 80£?
