Wearing metallic shoes to work?

SantaClauseMightWork · 03/03/2018 12:04

Hi all.
I really can't decide on this. I am in 30s, workplace is casual smart mostly or smart. I was wondering if I could pull off metallic pumps with a monochrome dress? Black and white or a plain black dress with no other accessories but golden metallic shoes?
All ideas appareciated please.

Yes! I wear gold pointy flats to work in a smart role. No issues!

CountFosco · 03/03/2018 16:41

Definitely OK. Can we see a pic of the shoes?

Scribblegirl · 03/03/2018 16:43

I'm not a huge fan of pumps in the office as they can sometimes look a bit casual IMO but I have a lovely pair of silver brogues that I wear to work (City, smart dress code) and I've had loads of compliments Smile

Argeles · 03/03/2018 16:50

Of course you can - go for it, they sound great!

I’d also wear a huge gold statement costume necklace to go with them, but that’s what I’m like.

Sunny779 · 03/03/2018 16:50

When you say pumps do you mean high heeled pumps, flats or trainer pumps? If it's heels yes as long as no other bling and not strappy, embellished or open toe. Trainers I would say no in an office unless that's the office dress code. Metallic flats I'm with scribblegirl. I wear silver lace up flatforms (zara) and silver loafers (Hudson) and looove them. Lots of compliments and they are a bit different. In fact I wish it was a bit warmer so I could bloody wear them!

I've been wearing various metallic shoes to work for the last 7 years on and off. A mixture of dressy sandals (I worked in Asia for a few years, but most of the time has been in London, Canary Wharf specifically), ballet pumps, low heeled courts, lace-ups and boots. I love metallics. Star

I wore some gold-sequinned lace-ups a few months ago. No-one in the office batted an eye. I was wearing silver glitter loafers most of last week.

Just enjoy and rock whatever shoes you choose to wear. Smile

I’ve got metallic doc marten shoes I wear to work (primary teacher). Go for it!

Wow! So many replies and all positive... had a shite day at work and this has covered up for it. Thanks all.
I was thinking along the line of these or something similar.

That sounds lovely for a casual Friday in my workplace or to put on right before we are leaving for drinks or something. Smile

I don't usually wear high heels. Just medium or low. And definitely no trainers though I can imagine some of the high end ones to work ok. But definitely not worth the money for the look.

I wear metallic and shimmery clothes/shoes to accessorise at work but I’m quite a smart dresser. I think it’s absolutely fine. I also wear ballet pumps to work and with the right outfit I think can look very smart.

pomadas87 · 05/03/2018 20:55

The Boden flats are gorgeous and definitely smart for the office

SpiritedLondon · 05/03/2018 22:11

A colleague wears dull silver flats which look really good with her monochrome taste and dark hair. I have silver boots by Vagabond which I have not yet worn but would probably wear with very long pleated skirts - but not until I’ve worn them “ out out” a few times. I like the contrast with quite formal tailored clothes.

MinesaPinot · 05/03/2018 22:36

Yes. I wear metallics. Ballet pumps with a dress during the summer and my copper metallic Converse with jeans on dress down days.

SantaClauseMightWork · 07/03/2018 22:03

thank you to all of you for giving me hope Grin. Metallics all the way!

Why ever wouldn't you OP? It would have to be super-formal (high court etc) for metallics to be so very way out there surely

BitOutOfPractice · 07/03/2018 22:05

@Scribblegirl I don't think by "pumps" the OP means sneakers, I think she means it less like plimsolls and more like the american definition

FlorenceLyons · 08/03/2018 09:40

Those are lovely! I love metallic shoes. I have two pairs - Ash ankle boots in a sort of dull silvery gold, and Clarks Mary Janes in copper. I wear both for work with a similar business casual dress code.
