Is there a ‘petite’ thread?

I’m in desperate need of good quality basic petite vest tops. I find the straps on most are too long. I tried ASOS petite but they shrink like mad and are really thin material.

A pettite thread sounds like a brilliant idea but unfortunately I can’t help with your vest top problem.

PhyllisWig · 03/03/2018 09:32

Also like a petite thread but can't help with vests.

Tika77 · 03/03/2018 09:36

Have you checked Next?

Thumbellini · 03/03/2018 09:38

The basic £1.80 vest tops/camis from primark have little adjusters on the straps and wash well. I have a mountain of them that I wear under tops. I also like H&M vest tops

VileyRose · 03/03/2018 09:41

I love NEXT petite jeans and jasper J petite are the only good ones. Perfect fit.

Antheia · 03/03/2018 10:09

I have H&M Divided tips in XS, also Uniqlo Airism vests for S (77-83cm), the straps are the right length for me.

I'm 5' and as you can tell from the Uniqlo vest size above I have nothing in the nork department Grin

I'd love a petite thread. Any brand/blogger recommendations so I can get some inspiration? Shopping is always frustrating. I buy dresses and tops sized for 12 year olds, very hard to feel stylish and grown up...

For shoes, I'm a size 2 and love Pretty Small Shoes. Their London shop is worth a visit just to feel like I'm a normal size person!

legfaced · 03/03/2018 10:17

Thanks all.

So I’ve been trying to think of witty petite thread titles but Thomas the tank engine on tv in the background is sucking inspiration dry!

I got my wedding shoes from Pretty Small shoes. I loved them.

I would LOVE some tips/inspiration for petite style. I’m loving M&S petite skinnies at the moment but I haven’t bought much tbh since having my son.

Where does everyone go petite shopping on a fairly limited budget? Any good recent purchases?

Great idea.

sillyswimmer · 03/03/2018 10:23

I buy my vests, plus other basics, from H&M. They always wash and wear well

sportyfool · 03/03/2018 12:18

I'm 5 ft and wear Topshop Jamie jeans in petite leg . They are ankle grazers but stop at exactly the right place on me . I don't find normal tops too long only coats sleeves sometimes .
Best tops can easily be shortened though so I'd probably do that if need be , I have big boobs though so maybe that takes up the slack .

Agustarella · 03/03/2018 12:23

My best vest tops are ribbed ones from New Look, can't remember if they were from the petite range but they probably were. Their quality is hit and miss though. Agreed about the strap issue on standard sized vests. I was always put off buying ones with adjustable straps in case they look like underwear (i.e. bra straps) rather than outerwear. Is this silly?

Leatherboundanddown · 03/03/2018 12:23

On the high street Topshop and Miss Selfridge petite sizes are really small, I recently bought a great jumpsuit from MS petite in the sale that looks like COS sort of style, so pleased with it.

For size 2 shoes ZARA go that low, size 35 is ALWAYS left in the sale too for very cheap. If you like doc martens, go for the JUNIOR kids size range, a size 2 fits me perfectly though most places I take a 3.

Agustarella · 03/03/2018 12:32

I can't find the particular ones that were really good (left them in France and am mid-way through packing up my stuff in the UK) but most of my New Look vests and bodies are standard size and are fine. I'm 5'3 and booby, so I may be at the big end of the petite spectrum; my main problem is being short-waisted, which is more of a challenge with dresses than with separates.

VileyRose · 03/03/2018 13:00

A petite thread would be wonderful.
I find them hit and miss too but my personal faves are Dorothy Perkins, top shop and next xx

My wedding dress is asos petite

As for bargains I usually trawl eBay. Especially jeans then i can test the fit lol x

MagnifyingGlassSearch · 03/03/2018 14:59

The problem I find with petite tops is that they're just too short! I would appreciate a cami that's been adjusted on the straps and the neckline (so it's not ridiculously low), but then I need them to be longer in the body or they just annoy me. So longline petite is what I'm after I guess.

CountFosco · 03/03/2018 17:09

Petite bloggers: Smalltownthreads, Thefashionlift, Susiesoso, Missionstyle, Petitesideofstyle, Hollyderyncourt, and Projectpetite. I don't read all of these but I do like the first three or four on the list.

Aridane · 03/03/2018 17:11

Doroth Perkins petite jogging are great.

CoffeeOrSleep · 03/03/2018 17:23

Another petite MNer here!

I like Boden petite, especially the jeans, but not the price tag so much...

BlueEyedWonder · 03/03/2018 17:28

I’d like a petite thread. I’m 5ft and size 6/8. All my friends are taller.

I just bought a cami style vest top from Topshop petite. It fits perfectly.

HolyShmoly · 03/03/2018 20:48

I normally wear vests under other tops so I don't need to worry about them being petite as much. However, I don't like having my boobs out and when I wear the vests on their own during the summer I do feel like their on display. I've just clicked that this is cause they aren't petite!
I normally buy H&M or Primark vests and have short shoulders.

I'll definitely join in a petite thread. I'm 5' 3" at a stretch and have short legs and shoulders. I normally wear looser tops and have a decent chest so I don't normally buy petite tops as standard. I do wear skinny bottoms. I don't particularly like buying online so I'm normally limited to the highstreet. I deeply mourn the Levi Bold Curve jeans that came in a shorter length and our local shop would tailor them to fit.
I know I should just get my dresses, etc tailored, but it adds extra expense to everything.

I'm currently pregnant so trying to find petite maternity wear is fun. Asos maternity petite jeans came up a little short on me (probably suitable for around a 26 - 27" inside leg) I've had better luck relying on H&M's terrible quality control and finding trousers that have been made shorter.

PurpleNailVarnish · 03/03/2018 21:04

Gap have the modern tank and the modern cami in their petite range.
I'm not sure whether they're quite what you're looking for but I regularly buy vests, t-shirts and other basics from their petite range.
They are usually good quality and wash well.
They've got plenty of other vests too.

I've just looked again and they only have the modern cami in Large in petite.
If you give it a month or two they'll have loads more strappy tops.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/03/2018 21:26

Watching this with interest :-)

Love Dorothy perkins petite though seem to do less then use to. Do like their jeans

New look do nice petite stuff though avoid their jeans. All over the place though think their sizing is anyway.

RunningAddict · 03/03/2018 21:29

Oo this thread is perfect!

Got some great jeans from boohoo petite range that fit perfectly in the leg, I’m 5’2 with ridiculously short legs Hmm

Primark vest tops are pp said are great too

TooMinty · 03/03/2018 21:39

@HolyShmoly New Look do petite maternity wear. Or just buy normal clothes a size bigger - e.g. stretchy vest dresses from Primark.

Can anyone recommend good petite pjs? Ideally fleecy...

moonmaker · 03/03/2018 21:48

Ooh love this thread

Petite ranges I love are topshop for jeans , new look and Dorothy Perkins. Wallis petite do a longline blazer that's amazing for work.
Occasionally buy from gap and banana republic . Boohoo and Missguided for the odd piece too and are reasonably priced for a budget . River island have some fab stuff on their website too .
