What do you wear around the house?

As soon as I'm in the house I immediately change into my "comfy" clothes. This usually being an old, loose t shirt, leggings and trainer socks (with fake uggs when walking around). Also the hair goes up and the bra comes off. If I get chilly, I wear my grey boyfriend cardigan.

Basically, presentable enough to answer the door/go outside with the dog, but I wouldn't want to go outside and meet people like this. I'm curious what others wear to relax in around the house :)

This year i decided to accept and indulg my inner sloth so upgraded crappy loungewear to M&S marl cashmere jumper and cuffed jogging bottoms, M&S cream cashmere onesie, black Straight leg cashmere joggers and short sleeved top. Various silk trousers with semi elasticated waists, lots of cashmere socks. Am contemplating a bralet or 'house bra' Grin but not sure the saggy old udders would be up to it.
I have lots of medical appointments and driving to and fro DDs nursery and happily rock up in the above.

Loonoon · 27/02/2018 20:48

Much the same as you OP but I wear one of my many ancient pairs of 'real' Uggs for warmth and grip and I have to wear a soft bra too. My boobs are huge and there is no way I would countenance opening the front door to a neighbour or delivery man without having them contained in some way.

Argeles · 27/02/2018 20:53

When I first married, I was shocked to discover that my DH changed into tracksuit bottoms and a t shirt as soon as he came home. It didn’t matter how he’d been dressed outside, or what he’d been doing or what the weather was like - he would always get changed and still does. I used to find this really slobbish, and used to think that he should be making more of an effort in front of me.

In my family home, we would never change our clothes when we came home, unless we were feeling very unwell, or if our clothes had been soaked with rain.

I don’t know when I started changing into my pyjamas, but my DH’s behaviour has rubbed off on me! I don’t always do it, but I do it more often than not now. I always keep a full face of make up on, my hair down and my jewellery on though, otherwise I feel really scruffy.

The problem I have with pyjamas and casual clothing worn at home though, is I find I’m much less productive if dressed like this.

starlightafar · 27/02/2018 20:56

Tracksuit bottoms, socks and a jumper. Or PJs;
Leggings I have never worn but should be strictly illegal to walk outside in them.
I have never, ever in my life seen anyone look good in leggings. They should be condemned and never be sold again. Nobody's arse looks good in them. Some are better than others, ie the thick supportive ones vs the primark see through version. But they're horrible things and I don't understand why people wouldn't rather have jeans or trousers.

snozzlemaid · 27/02/2018 20:57

As soon as I get in from work I change into comfy leggings and a t shirt or tunic top. And definitely off with the bra.
Can't stand being in work clothes or jeans all evening. I need to be comfy.
I get annoyed if I know I have to take dd somewhere so I have to stay in 'going out' clothes for longer.

starlightafar · 27/02/2018 20:58

Argeles my home was like that too. We always got up and dressed on weekends too even if we never went out. Skirt and tights, a top. Seems strange now as we have entire weekends not getting dressed.
I think taking off the work clothes and showering into PJs is the best feeling ever. And removing a bra. Although, it doesn't look good!

MargaretCavendish · 27/02/2018 21:00

If I'm wearing a dress I tend to get straight into my PJs; if I'm wearing separates then I keep the top half on but put jeans on on the bottom half. Which, now I think about it, must be a hang-up from when I was at school, and my mum would make me change my skirt so they didn't need washing so much, but keep my shirt on because that would need washing every day regardless. Maybe I should be brave and break this rule since it's the best part of two decades since I left school!

BexleyRae · 27/02/2018 21:01

How are people comfy in jeans. As soon as I get home jeans are off and leggings are on

joystir59 · 27/02/2018 21:07

"softies" which are jogging bottomsand a T shirt and sweater. Crocs on my feet.

joystir59 · 27/02/2018 21:09

I work from home and sometimes start very early in the morning wearing my PJs with a jumper over the top

AmazingDetectiveSlashGenius · 27/02/2018 21:15

I love my home clothes. I stopped feeling guilty about spending money ON them when I realised how much time I spend IN them.

I have many bottoms from Hush and Vanilla Park, they're my favourites, but also from Boden and other places. I recently discovered University of Whatever trackie bottoms on Amazon - they actually fit me and don't look too slobby, for trackie bums - and are thick and warm.

On top I like to wear Boden "lightweight" cotton tops, the baseball ones or the looser dropped shoulder ones. I love these for the soft, light, slubby cotton that doesn't cling and feels warm in winter and cool in summer. Great to sleep in, too.

Over that (because I keep a cold house), chunky wool or cashmere sweater / cardigan. I like them oversized, with long sleeves that can come over my hands. Favourite discovery this winter was alpaca boucle from Poetry, like wearing a warm cloud Smile

For mornings I have a small collection of dressing gowns - thick fleece-lined Joules one for now, soft cotton terry one for spring, Toast flannel one for any time, thin cotton voile one for summer. DP does make fun of me for this Blush.

BlueEyedWonder · 27/02/2018 21:18

I’m fascinated by this!
I get dressed everyday. Even if if I’m not going anywhere. Even if I’m ill.
I wear smart casual (essentially no jeans) to work. I take my shoes off when I get home but nothing else.

Judydreamsofhorses · 27/02/2018 21:19

As soon as I get home I change into “house clothes”, take my makeup off and my lenses out/glasses on. I have several pairs of velour “lounge pants” from M&S which are super cosy, and wear them with big jumpers which have gone bobbly or I just no longer love for wearing outside, plus fake Uggs. In summer I tend to wear leggings and breton tops. Basically I look presentable enough if someone comes to the door, but I wouldn’t go further than the bins like this. I sometimes feel sorry for my partner because he mainly sees me looking crap!

rightknockered · 27/02/2018 21:20

Today, it was freezing, and I wore leggings, long-sleeved t-shirt, a shawlette thing I knit myself, an old long grey woolly cardigan and my Celtic house boots. And I always remove my bra.

I have slipper boots for the tiled floors

StillMedusa · 27/02/2018 21:32

Confession... a few months ago Dh got home from work early. 'You look nice!' he said. I couldn't think why... nothing different to my usual ...then I realised...I was still dressed Blush I now try and make en effort not to get in my pjs/joggers until he is home!

TBF he isn't much better... he wears joggers and crocs round the house!

BitOutOfPractice · 27/02/2018 21:33

This has opened my eyes. Totally

I put gym clotes on this morning but never made it to the gym as the weather has been so grim. Still wearing them now

Esspee · 27/02/2018 21:39

I decided that I had loads of lovely clothes which only saw the light of day when I was going out so made up my mind to wear them often. Tonight I am wearing a beautiful long midnight blue velvet number from Monsoon. I love velvet and have four velvet dresses, all very comfortable and tactile. In winter I wear trousers outside so love wearing something feminine indoors. In summer usually it is shorts or short dresses during the day and long dresses in the evening.
Don't own pj's, have a few lovely nighties which never get worn. Seems I'm very much in the minority.

happymummy12345 · 27/02/2018 21:43

Indoors I wear comfy tracksuit bottoms, and usually my husbands old t shirts and hoodies (they're baggy on me so really comfy to wear), and slippers.
I love being comfy at home.

applesareredandgreen · 27/02/2018 21:44

During a weekend or non-working day I’ll wear tracksuit bottoms/ fleece top or leggings/ long jumper so I can leave the house to walk the dog / visit my parents / the supermarket but still be comfortable. If I’ve been at work then I change straight into PJs as soon as I get in.

goose1964 · 27/02/2018 21:44

YB nightie, dressing gown and duvet

Tantpoke · 27/02/2018 21:48

Yes as soon as I'm in the door I whip my bra off and put on a hoodie or t-shirt and a pair of lounge wear bottoms so not leggings or trackie bottoms. ie so I can answer the door in them.

Tantpoke · 27/02/2018 21:51

right now however I'm wearing a very comfortable long cotton kaftan that I put on after an evening shower.

BumDisease · 27/02/2018 21:52

Pyjamas all the way. I do not understand people who get/stay dressed to stay indoors.
