Dying over lightened hair......

Just had a brainwave and it could be genious or disasterous!

I just can't sit on my hands any longer, i NEED to sort out my colour - i feel like one of those walking hair disasters you see on google, you know the BEFORE photo, i just can't rock this indescribable, yellowwy golden, at best 'ombre'.

Not having much money and an non-understanding, increasingly frustrated husband i can't go to the hairdressers. My local pharmacy stock my usual box dye,its a permanent colour so it'll have to do. Because the lengths of my hair has been lightened to a 'golden' colour i realise i cant just put a flat brown on, i could risk it going green, but i don't want to end up with dark red or bright ginger hair either.

Anyway there's a warm brown. And a natural brown. I could mix them together, because the warm brown may result in being too reddish over the yellow? Do my roots first, apply a little bit of conditioner to the lengths (my hair is a bit dry - this is a tip from a hairdresser) and then do the rest- has anyone else dyed their hair this way - covering with condtioner first?

Here's the box dyes i'm on about. What shade do i want? i guess im just wanting a nice warm chocolate brown, doesn't matter if its lighter down the lengths, its bound to be. But i want to be brown again. Not yellow golden.

I thought it might help if I attach a pic of my hair, it doesn't look to yellowy on this but it looks all different under different lights. I had a really good cut the other day (different salon to where I had the ombre done) & even hairdresser said the lightened part were a bit on the golden side. Do you think a natural brown & warm brown mixed will do the drink or should I go for dark blonde & warm brown?

The natural brown should be fine. I would wash your hair in a clarifying shampoo such as Tresemme, first. This will get rid of products and conditioner and helps the colour to take better.
