Teenager sobbing in the eyebrow bar

It’s hard been 15 isn’t it the poor love. Apparently one was too thin and her nee night is ruined. Her poor mother trying to placate her and the woman who did it doesn’t know where too look. She has beautiful dark eyebrows unlike my menopausal wafers. I told her that when I got up to pay and they both gave me daggers!!!

My friend shaved her eyebrows off totally. It was the seventies and we all plucked them to death but that was extreme.

I didnt hear nastiness either OP.

flightchecker · 21/02/2018 20:55

Bluntness, that's such an unnecessarily twatty response. Hmm

Bluntness100 · 21/02/2018 21:01

Really? You see I feel it's twatty to go on line and sneer at a 15 year old crying. A twatty response back just lets the op know how it feels. Poor love.

Sneer at another adult woman if she must sneer at someone. Not a kid.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/02/2018 21:10

I don't think OP is being judgmental or twatty.

Unlike some other posters.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/02/2018 21:31

Oh honestly, spin is alive and well. Lol

greendale17 · 21/02/2018 21:38

None of my then 15 year old friends would have cried about their night being ruined.

Peartree17 · 21/02/2018 21:54

Er...I thought the OP sounded sympathetic and kind towards the girl, not sneering at all. My 16 year old lad was thrown by a miniscule bit of his hairline that hadn't been shaved by the barber, and I had to help out with a safety razor. It IS hard being an adolescent! Thank god for age!

I don't really understand the modern eyebrow though - they are big ol' slugs, obviously the goal is as much artifice as possible. Very Elizabethan!

EachandEveryone · 21/02/2018 22:04

Well thats why i thought benefit wouldve been the option or at least getting them tinted abit. However she had loveky eyebrows its just the arch wasnt correct. Although to me it looked fine. I cant remember anyone going to a salon to get anything done when i was 15! In the 80's.

OP posts:
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 21/02/2018 22:14

Yes, it was all DIY when I was a teenager in the 90s - eyebrows plucked to oblivion, hair dyed mad colours with those little pots you got in hippy shops. The only thing I remember seeing a professional for was my belly button piercing. Grin

milkntwo · 21/02/2018 22:26

She wasn’t a baby for crying! Teenagers are under so much pressure these days. People got slated for stuff 20 years ago when I was 15, but not like goes on now.

I had to chin a colleague today for “joking” with my 13yo that he needs a haircut, just because he has a longer style of hair. He thinks it’s funny and doesn’t mean any harm, but adults should know better!

shehimthey · 21/02/2018 22:30

Sounds like a great name for a band

Dizzybintess · 21/02/2018 22:33

I had a full on pair of cara delvigne brows at the age of 14 and in 1992 that certainly was not the fashion!!

SoupDragon · 21/02/2018 22:33

You see I feel it's twatty to go on line and sneer at a 15 year old crying.

It would be.

However, that is not what the OP did.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 21/02/2018 22:37

My mum took me to get my eyebrows plucked at about 13/14

Only the first time mind, after that i was on my own

That must have been 84/85

PassiveAggressivePamela · 21/02/2018 22:38

As a teen I used to overpluck mine in the centre, so my brows looked like they were running away from each other.

There’s so much more choice now - waxing, threading etc, rather than squinting in a tiny mirror with some shit tweezers like I used to Grin

QueenLaBeefah · 21/02/2018 22:42

I can't imagine that the 15yr old is a mumsnetter.

Incywincyteenyweeny · 21/02/2018 22:43

Hmm I think bluntness has her own issues that are maybe being projected here.
Or she’s barmy or nasty so op ignore.
You sounded like you were trying to be kind. A sneery or mean response would have been feeding into the girls hysterics or laughing at her/taking the mickey.
What was the op expected to say ‘what a crisis your eyebrow arch isn’t right it’s the end of the world’. I’m just watching people on the news with half of their faces blown off/damaged/injured in Syria god bless them. Puts things into perspective. Yes it’s hard being a teenage girl these days in the uk but sometimes I think we feed into this a bit too much and should encourage them to look out to the world around them instead of scrutinising themselves and eachother so closely.

EachandEveryone · 21/02/2018 22:43

Its all threading where i am. Im not convinced its the best way fo get rid.

OP posts:
Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 21/02/2018 22:44

Dd really overplucked her eyebrows

We had to take her to get them plucked once a week by a 'specialist' so she would promise not to touch them

She now has skinny caterpillars ( i think they need a bit more shaping but what do i know)

twattymctwatterson · 21/02/2018 22:52

Tbh I did think it sounded a wee bit sneery op although others obviously didn't read it that way

UgandanKnuckles · 21/02/2018 22:56

I remember being raging at my mum when I was that age for pretty much banning me from plucking my eyebrows apart from the odd stray hair... this was back in 2000 when tiny thin eyebrows were all the rage. I'm glad she stopped me now!

GetOutOfMYGarden · 21/02/2018 23:09

Having one eyebrow thinner than the other is shit. She's stuck looking that way for a few weeks. The eyebrow lady fucked it up.

This thread does come off a bit sneery, especially 'it's hard being 15 isn't it the poor love'

EachandEveryone · 22/02/2018 00:18

I dont think they were too thin more to do wuth the arches been uneven. Thats what her mum was trying to say that they could be evened off and woukd be.

OP posts:
JanetStWalker · 22/02/2018 02:03

Bluntness, that's such an unnecessarily twatty response.

That seems to be it's USP.

pallisers · 22/02/2018 02:29

Sneer at another adult woman if she must sneer at someone.

like you did?

the sensitivity to an unknown 15 year old who would rather be shot out of a canon than read mumsnet is very amusing.

oh --- are you actually a 15 year old with bad eyebrows, Bluntness? If so, I take it all back.
