Mascara on bottom lashes, how?!!

youvegottobekidding · 21/02/2018 11:11

I don't usually apply mascara on my bottom lashes because when I've tried before, it's usually ended up in a smudgey mess - is there a knack of doing this & how?! Is eyeliner also needed when wearing mascara on the bottom lashes? Or for a softer look eyeshadow? How do you apply make up to your bottom lashes?

Avoid it on lower lashes. Your eyes are more “open” if you use it on your upper lashes only, I find. I use a slick of shadow on the bottom lash line in lieu of mascara.

I used to have this problem, then I found Clinique Bottom Lash mascara (comes in a tiny silver tube but lasts for ages). It's the only thing I have tried that doesn't budge.

IMHO going without mascara on the bottom can look a bit unfinished. Although not if your lashes are tinted.

WrenDouglas · 21/02/2018 12:25

I get my bottom lashes tinted once a month, it takes care of that "unfinished" look without the smudging from mascara.

A make up artist I follow on Youtube swears by Mac Extended Play mascara for bottom lashes. Its waterproof and has a tiny brush so doesn't leave too much. They use all sorts of different ones on the top.

I don't really wear make up so can't comment from experience.

Another user of Clinique bottom lash xx

I never use it on bottom lashes unless I want to look like Mary Quant.

HOW? Put your chin right down, do not under any circumstance look at your double chin in this posture, look up into the mirror (make sure the top lashes are dry though) and depending on what coverage you want, either wiggle brush through lashes or just dab a little on.
for everyday I tend to just poke the end of the brush through the outer corner bottom lashes.

ELF do a brilliant lower lash mascara for £2 down from a fiver! It's my beauty steal. It never smudges and I could put it on in the dark. I'm on my fourth tube - it's never let me down.

Sorry - showing as OOS at the moment. Totally recommend though.

Apply your usual mascara with one of those tiny interdental brush thingies. You can get a very fine coverage without it looking spidery. I like mascara on my lower lashes but don't want to look like Twiggy in the 1960s!

DollyPartonsBeard · 21/02/2018 16:02

Re liner: I tend to blend a matte taupe or grey shadow under my lower lashes to give some definition without harshness. My eyes look quite currants-in-an-unbaked-bun unless I define myself lower lash line.

Ulysses · 21/02/2018 16:11

Clear mascara first for thickness, then I just use the tip of my usual mascara wand for colour, which is the No7 gold tubing one and quite small (and doesn't smudge).

I also apply mascara before my eyeshadow as I know some of it will get onto my lid/undereyes and that way I can wipe it off beforehand.

EnidButton · 21/02/2018 16:13

Use a clean tissue to squeeze the brush through, touch bottom lashes with the wand rather than smoosh it through them. Adds a little bit of colour rather than gives thick coverage. A metal eyebrow/lash comb helps.

LemonysSnicket · 21/02/2018 18:30

I brush eyeshadow on my tear bag line ( google tear bag shadow) and then just wiggle the mascara brush on my lashes to coat then, clean up with a Q tip. Liner depends on if I can be bothered and then only outer flick ( liner on the inner tear line looks horrific unless you’re dark with massive eyes like mila Kunis or Arabic. )

Try L’Oréal telescopic - the brush is tiny and lengthening.

Sammysquiz · 21/02/2018 18:36

I just touch the mascara brush gently onto the lower lashes, but don’t wiggle it.

CantChoose · 21/02/2018 21:53

I do the same as sammy I think, I do the upper lashes then just push the brush remnants onto the lower lashes, rather than do a full sweep.

Getting them dyed is far easier than messing about with mascara.
