Bikini at 48?

I am off on a big holiday in the summer and want to get some bikinis. I am 48 and in fairly good shape size 10/12 (although could do with some more work on the old mum tum). I do have quite a long body so swimsuits never seem to fit me give me a camels toe so I am thinking I would like a bikini that is stylish, flattering and age appropriate. Tankinis just don't seem to look right on me. Any ideas?

I’m 42 and always wear bikinis on holiday. I too have a long body but unlike you I’m a 16. I bloody rock a bikini! Tanjinis are appalling on me/ the top rises up andjust my tum poles out. Not good. I find Debenhams and surprisingly Next are great for bikinis

Oh and I favour a high waisted pair of bottoms, but at your size you would look awesome in knicker sized bottoms

I'm 47 and always wear a bikini. I live in a hot place all summer and need to.

I like Calzedonia, but get a bigger size than you think you need! I wear a normal bikini from there, they have loads of styles. I get large.
I'm 5'9'' and about 10 stone but also have the dreaded tum. If I give up the booze though, I look fine in a bikini!

You really need to check your mirror, not your calendar when choosing swimwear. So ditch any idea of 'age appropriate'.

Instead think about what sort of bikinis you think are stylish. Also when you say 'flattering' what sort of support are you talking about? Sucky-in bottoms? Good bra scaffolding support? Skimpy or 1950s structured? For lounging with teens or toddler chasing or serious swimming?

Another vote for Calzedonia. The bikinis are great quality and they have loads of different styles. I live in a bikini from May/June to September as it's so hot where we live.

I'm 41 & always wear a bikini to the beach, I'm a 12-14 with an hourglass figure.

My latest bikinis are from Figleaves.
I like underwired tops in bra sizes with a halter neck; and small bottoms (I find big bottoms make me look bigger).

I like pretty prints in nice colours too.

Agree that Debenhams are really good for swimwear, but I'm nit sure they'll have their main stock in yet.

If you are serious about swimming or being active when in the bikini, look at sites like Simply Swim for Funkita and Dolfin Uglies

Don't all throw up a little bit, but I'm 64 and still wearing one. I find a swimsuit somehow makes me look fatter, like I'm in a sausage skin. The bikini shows off my shape (which is an old-fashioned hourglass one), but I buy the 50s style higher-waisted bottoms to hide the tum. The other really important thing about a swimsuit versus bikini is going to the loo! You can just pull down bikini bottoms like pants, but the swimsuit, aaargh, do you take the whole thing off, or risk yanking it to one side!

Go for it. Mrs Midlife Chic wears one and looks great and she is older than you.
