Feeling miffed

Am I silly to feel miffed about the hairdresser whacking off more than half of Dd's hair today when we clearly asked for a trim?

It's our usual hairdresser for DD; we asked for 2 fingers to be trimmed off the ends (meaning like 3 cm. - 2 finger widths, which is how haircuts are measured here) and she's taken her from elbow length to shoulder, basically a lob. I really don't know how the confusion happened as I showed her with the hair how much to trim.

When I saw how much length she'd taken off I tried to hide my shock from DD and said wow it's short (to the hairdresser, not DD) and she replied yes it's very fashionable - ?? DD is 6!

I know it'll grow back and it's not a serious problem, but I can't help feeling a bit sad.

Yeah that’s really annoying. How does your DD feel about it - thats the important thing.

However, you should have politely complained

I mean made more of it. I think it’s important we teach kids to be assertive and not always polite. X

Thanks NSEA. I really didn't want DD to see I was sad. But I am sad not because of the hair (it'll grow back, if she wants to have it longer again), but because of the lack of autonomy over her body.

In shock, I am not sure if I handled it well. I didn't tip the hairdresser and will not be going back there.

DD seems ok, if a bit mystified. We bumped into our neighbours (entire extended family) who all exclaimed a) she looks lovely and b) why did we cut off all her lovely hair. Confused

I wouldn't have paid. Didn't you watch while the hair was being cut? I've always found hairdressers to be too scissor happy so will trim DD myself if she evet wants her hair cut We are currently having a race to see who can grow it longest. It'll be a long game!

How annoying. I really don’t know why hairdressers do this. It’s no skin off their nose if a customer has a trim with 3 cm taken off instead of 6 or 8. It’s not like they are doing good for the world or the customer will really benefit in some way from their 8cm-off cut.

It will grow back and I bet she looks lovely anyway but it is annoying.
