Can you help disguise me as a human?

Doing temporary work in a lab environment, so jeans and t-shirt casual. They've offered me a, sadly temporary, job managing a project which I think I need to be a bit smarter for. Not banking office formal type smart - jeans and smarter than a t-shirt type.

I have two pairs of bootcut jeans, 1 black, 1 dark blue but need to sort a couple of options for the top half. I'm 176cm, but normal size legs and always seem to find tops are too short. I've bought a couple of tops from the long range in Next. Normal size tops, when I lean to get something, I've a gap in the middle which a colleague helpfully pointed out last week. So I need to change something.

I have problems with tunic tops because I'm an 8 on the top and 10-12 on the bottom, so either its the right size on top and too tight over the bottom or far too large on top. Plus which, what type of jumper or cardigan can you wear with a tunic? Long, short? And where from?

I try to wear only cotton or at least 95% cotton tops because of sweat/smell issues. Try to avoid polyester and viscose.

I've no idea of styles or what or where I should be looking. Literally all of my clothes are blue and I'd like a change because DH has noticed and is taking the piss out of me about it

Not sure I'm going ro be that much help as I dont have your enviable body shape Ten but I loved the title of your thread. How about some longer length but very lightweight/fine knit sweaters - cotton or merino? John Smedley turns up in TK Maxx all the time and might fit the bill? Colours and print can be fun to explore. If you're not sure what suits you those 'getting you colours done' type threads can be helpful for inspiration, even if you don't buy into the whole concept. (loads of free diagnostics on the web too).

H&M have long (mainly) cotton vests to help fill the gap Smile

If you like the tops you have, then you can fill the gap nicely with what are sold as cami dresses in Primark. I am tall, and these can be ruched up and still cover my bum, or be firmly tucked in.

I find browsing ebay for 'tall mysize' in womens clothing a good way to see stuff from all the different tall collections, and rather than wearing jumpers/cardis which I don't really like, I layer tops over long sleeved t shirts for extra warmth

Blush thank you. I find it a pain to find clothes though. Never really been able to buy a dress! I hadn't thought to search for merino.

Can you advise on lengths? If I wear a longer or tunic length top, should a cardigan be longer than the top?

DH said I should get some prints but I've no idea where to start or how to judge what will look good. Or passable. I'll settle for passable. I went once (before DC when I had time and spare cash!) to a personal shopper. She told me never to wear yellow. I don't know if that means I should avoid all colours with yellow in like green or not.

I rarely buy clothes, been sahm for 8 years and am totally lost by the styles and well, everything.

I'll look for some vests, but not sure underlayers on display is ok in an office?

Fine to see a vest top sticking out underneath I think.

Second h&m for long ones.

I'd go for a cardigan that's longer than the top usually.

TenGinBottles · 18/02/2018 20:53

Will get vests tomorrow!

What's with all the cardigans that don't do up? Isn't that really annoying under a coat?
