Home hair dye help please

I'm so fed up of my hair being one colour. I have a lot of grey so I need to dye it. I can't afford to go to a salon. I've seen e salon and some kits that do highlights. Would anyone recommend? Or any other ideas?

Can you get a recommendation for a local mobile hairdresser? Or go to a hairdressing college and be a model for colours?
Depends on region you are in I suppose, but after using home dyes, my blonde hair looked awful and too brassy but was too skint at that time to afford a salon. Found a great mobile hairdresser who charges me 30 quid for a cut and colour. My hair looks fab now.
I also found home hair dyes didnt last, even the perm ones.
