Open pores!

I've started a new face care regime since new year:
Morning-wash face, caffeine eye cream, eye moisturiser, face moisturiser, spf 50
Evening-caffeine eye cream, retinoid drops (every other day ish), face mask (twice a week ish), night moisturiser
I had a facial this week and whilst in my dreamy haze she said to me something about great skin but that I had open pores and mentioned something about face scrub twice a week (not to mention lots of other predictably expensive products!). Having looked in the mirror she's right that my pores are really obvious on my nose and cheeks. What do I need to do about that?

You can’t really change it - pores don’t really shrink back to a permanently more closed state. Acid toning and retinol stuff might minimise the look of them, and primers and blurring products can be fun to play around with; but as long as you cleanse well and they aren’t clogged it’s probably a good idea to accept visible pores as a reality.

Physical exfoliants like scrubs aren’t going to help btw, and might well just annoy your skin. Acids will exfoliate more gently.

Oh and wear sunscreen - because apparently one of the effects of sun damage is to break down , which hastens the decrepitude of our pore walls.

Having said that, I’m a lazy sunscreen-dodger myself. I know it’s wrong of me though.

Um, well, pores are just pores really and all this open and closed stuff is created to sell products. You can’t really do anything about it. You certainly can’t shut them!

If you are prone to pores that are more dilated than you’d like, the best thing to do is to keep your face as dry as possible. You will always notice that your pores look tighter just after washing your face, and they will always look more open in hot weather etc.

Learn to live with it. They are just pores. It’s not a fault.

Sorry, you said you do wear sunscreen and I missed that.

Also sorry that I’m posting loads on your thread like a strange pore obsessive. It’s partly to take my mind off a different thread!

I love that you're pore obsessed - means you're helpful to me! So I guess I need to wash a little better and worry less! Thanks everyone
