Straight hair growing curly

Recently about 80% of my lovely shiny poker straight long dark hair fell out due to severe anaemia. It’s starting to grow back now, but for the first time ever in my life it’s growing with a very definite wave/curl! And the texture is quite frizzy but not sure whether that’s because of differering lengths of hair. Is it normal for straight hair to grow back curly or any reason why it is and a way to get it to grow straight again? I’m nearly 48... I don’t have the motivation to deal with a whole new hair thing!

Mine did this after I had children. It’s a nightmare, I have no idea how to deal with curly hair after a lifetime of it being straight!

I've heard is common to grow back curly after chemo. My cousins did

I'm not sure. Though I've had completely straight hair all my life - wouldn't even hold a perm. Now though, one year the other side of the menopause and it's as curly as heck, and am having to dry it with argen oil and conditioner pre applied in order to tame it somewhat.

Oh shit. I was hoping people would say it’s just until it settles and will straighten out as it grows more... I really can’t deal with curly hair and don’t even suit it! I had a perm 25 years ago and when DD saw photos she said I looked like Marge Simpson...

I know two people who have grown curly hair back after chemo having previously had straight hair. Yours may just seem wavy or frizzy because it's still growing back, and it may not be great quality hair if your diet hasn't been great. Unfortunately I think it's one of those things you'll have to wait and see. Curly hair isn't all that difficult to deal with and doesn't have to be high maintenance though, don't get down about it, I doubt it will resemble a perm.

It should settle. Mine grew back curly after chemo and completely different texture. A few years down the line and its back to 'normal' albeit a much darker colour.
