Really nice off-the-peg suit for my DH

My DH has recently bitten the bullet and shaved off his hair as it was getting to the point of no return. It was a bit of a painful thing for him and for me as I was never a lover of shaved heads in the past since I used to associate them (probably very unfairly) with football yobs and neo-nazi types generally. However, it actually really suits him and, as long as he wears nice clothes, he looks good.

We are going to a family wedding soon and it will be the first time we've seen a lot of my wider family since he shaved his head and I really want to get him a lovely suit. Can anyone suggest where we might find a really nice one? Haven't really got the time or money to buy anything bespoke at the moment, unfortunately as the wedding is mid-April.

What’s his build?

MyBrilliantDisguise · 17/02/2018 17:32

I like Hugo Boss suits. What's your budget?

fecketyfeck · 17/02/2018 17:36

My DH bought a black suit from Jeff Banks which looks great, was only about £150. Went back to get a similar one in grey but didn't like any so went to Skopes instead, got a gorgeous wool blend grey suit, even nicer than the Jeff Banks for only £115. Would definitely recommend Skopes, loads of different styles and the sales guy we had was really helpful.

TM Lewins are decent but it depends on budget. Kenzo is great if he’s not hugely tall.

Charles Tyrwhitt do lovely suits for about £400-500 - you can buy online, but worth getting to a store if you can as they’ll fit it properly for you. They’ll also sort out alterations - my DH got his wedding suit there and has got loads of wear out of it since, and it still looks immaculate.

Paul Smith suits are unbelievably flattering and with the interesting linings can be a good balance between appropriate and interesting.

Oddbutnotodd · 17/02/2018 17:42

Bicester Outlet have Savoy Taylor's Guild , Ted Baker and other brands if you are near there. They do alterations too.

I second Jeff Banks. DH always gets a right bargain because he is a funny shape.

TeddyIsaHe · 17/02/2018 17:50

Hugo Boss are good for off the peg. Ted Baker if he’s a little more quirky in his style.

CanIGoToBedNow · 17/02/2018 17:54

I second TM Lewins or Charles Tyhwhitt. DH has a couple of suits from them. If you work for some organisations you can get 10% off... worth an ask

Thanks so much for all all the suggestions so quickly, I really appreciate it. He's just over 6' 1" and weighs about 13 and a quarter stone.

Depends on your budget but my DH’s nicest looking suit is from Acquascutum.

DontMentionTheWar · 17/02/2018 17:59

Forgot to say, budget is up to £500.

Debenhams do the long length shirts if he struggles.

DontMentionTheWar · 17/02/2018 18:26

Thanks, he seems to manage without the longer length shirts but we sometimes buy longer length jackets for Debenhams. The town I live in is quite restricted but a lot of the shops mentioned have branches in the nearest cities to us. You've all been so helpful, thank you.

Worth checking out Massimo Dutti. My husband has a lovely suit from there.

Just to update everyone who was so kind enough to help with this and offer suggestions. We found a lovely suit yesterday in Charles Tyrwhitt. The sales assistant was so pleasant and helpful and I could tell my DH felt a million dollars. Thank you all very much. 😊
